Virtual Fire Extinguisher Douses Digital Fire

By Alex in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods on Sep 17, 2007 at 5:07 am

I didn’t think that using a fire extinguisher is that difficult (aim at base of fire, pull trigger), but apparently there is a need for training.

Enter BullsEye, a digital fire extinguisher training simulator, which allows you to put out virtual fire during training, without the mess associated with using dry-chemical or CO2 extinguishers.

I worked for a very safety-oriented company that had
it’s employees trained in using fire extinguishers
using a burning gas-oil mix in a large pan. It’s not
as easy at it seems, and I didn’t get it on the first
    try.
I can’t imagine that a virtual fire would behave the
same as a real fire, but I suppose it’s better than nothing in a situation where it isn’t possible to set up a pan of burning fluid outside.

When we went through our fire training, we had several people sick of the fumes of burning plastic (they had old IBMs to burn, and it was inside training). That was quite the real deal, and I wouldn’t have missed that by all cost…
Missing your pointy hair boss chocking and gagging? come on! that’s worth a big raise! I don’t find this virtual fire thingy neat ! ;)

Because there’s no better way to practice firefighting, than on a two foot screen.
