Mutatoes: Mutant Veggies and Fruits

Posted by Alex in Arts & Crafts on August 10, 2007 at 5:51 pm

Uli Westphal’s latest artwork is a collection of beautiful photographs of produce – not just any ol’ fruits and veggies you find in your supermarket, these are mutant ones!

Mutatoes
Being a collection of non-standard fruits, roots and vegetables found at Berlin’s farmers markets, the Mutato-Project serves to document and archive these last survivors of biological variety.

One of the tomatoes in my garden looks exactly like one inside the collection.

One of my fairly recent articles for Wikipedia was "Unusually-shaped vegetables". Sadly I was lacking an example to include as an image and I'm still searching. I think I'll try contacting Uli Westphal for permission to use a couple of these pics. Cheers!
