What’s Opera, Doc?

The Warner Brothers cartoon What’s Opera, Doc? is marking its 50th anniversary this week. It was voted by animation professionals as the greatest cartoon of all time. Push play or go to Youtube.

No one who knows and loves “What’s Opera, Doc?” will ever hear Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” without hearing, in their own minds, “Kill da wabbit … kill da wabbit.”

Watching this makes me think that the guys who accompany the cartoon should get more recognition. The music in this is great (yes I know it’s by Wagner but still) and looking at the other cartoons the soundtrack for most of them is pretty good too. Not to mention the classic theme song… fantastic. I think playing music for a cartoon would be one of the coolest jobs ever.

The horse looks like the genetically mutated, over-muscled cow I’ve seen pictures of recently.

Love all those old cartoons. I would have put Duck Dodgers in the 24 and 1/2th Century or the Singing Frog Cartoon in front of this one.

Old school cartoons are the best.
(Well, except for The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc.) (Okay, kids’ cartoons today suck, that’s more accurate.)
