Aunt Jackie

What I’m really linking to here is an article in Slate about the song/dance/video called Aunt Jackie and the flurry of activity it has created on YouTube. I must confess that as a 37-yr old hip-hop fan, reading the article and watching the videos this morning made my day. The YouTube video above is apparently the first and original and not of the best quality. I’d recommend reading its introduction in the article before taking a peek. Its imitators, many of which are also linked in the article, are a great deal of fun and mostly of at least marginally better quality. Note that there is some “street language” in the video embedded above! Now - do the Aunt Jackie! Slate.com.

I am going to establish a NGO to teach the black American boys to wear clothes in the correct size. ;-)

Thank you for your comment, Myra.

Fortunately, with regards to this post, I’M THE DECIDER. I’M THE COMMANDER-GUY. I think the whole thing is neat, therefore as DECIDER and COMMANDER-GUY, it is “neat.”

    Welcome to THE INTERNETS.

That was awesome. I love the old school flow.

Too bad since I’m a puny white nerdy kid, if I end up anywhere near harlem I’ll be scared for my life.

But seriously, that was awesome Adam, thanks for posting it. The song is infectious. And I love Black Cesar sayin’ “Chicken noodle soupin’ it”

    Thanks, Jake.

Harlem is as safe as anyplace else in this country - even for a puny white nerdy kid. Don’t let the media fool you into thinking anything different.

Thanks Adam…that took me back to the days of high top fades, overalls, polka dot rayon shirts, black medallions-no gold, and when hip-hop was just a lot more fun.

Thank you for the link! As an older hip-hop fan myself it certainly made my evening.

I have not anything against the Hip Hop, only the ostensible way what it is showing in the TV. We do not see any more videos of other artists in the MTV Brazil, just Hip Hop. Where is the Rock, Punk, Country, Blues and so many other pops successes of these years? Where did go everybody?

Fun, lighter hip-hop. Old-school, not bad.

    beauty,excitement,inspiration,love and so so simple…

“A mythical bird that never dies, the phoenix flies far ahead to the front, always scanning the landscape and distant space. It represents our capacity for vision, for collecting sensory information about our environment and the events unfolding within it. The phoenix, with its great beauty, creates intense excitement and deathless inspiration.” - The Feng Shui Handbook, Lam Kam Chuen
