The Humane Index.

The Humane Index, a special website by The Humane Society, ranks the largest 25 US cities according how humane they are to animals (for instance, they take into account factors like whether people use cameras to "shoot" birds or do they just shoot ‘em with real bullets).

Link (Flash navigation is gorgeous, but a little tough to use) – Thanks Kiera!

Great, now we can all join the Bleeding Hearts club. Maybe these people should join forces with PETA.

So all people against needless animal cruelty are "bleeding hearts"?? I just think its being normal.

I'm glad to see I live in one of the top 5 humane cities!

what a strange site. I should probably start off by letting folks know I live in uber rural canada, texada island bc, to be exact. I really do think that this whole idea of "humane cities" is born out of a basic disconnect alot of city folks have with nature and the food they eat. I'm all for shutting down puppy mills and banning farmed fur (as distinct from wild fur). I don't see anything particularily inhumane about going out to my yard and getting some eggs from my chickens or heading into the bush to deer with my grandpa.
