Wikis of the World.

By Alex in Blogs & Internet on Apr 11, 2007 at 2:46 am

Since Jimmy Wales created Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia anyone can edit, six years ago, a bunch of "wikis" have sprung up.

Mental_floss has the scoop of the various wikis that are out there. For example:

Wikiality, “the truthiness encyclopedia” was launched by Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert in 2006 shortly after he was banned from Wikipedia for encouraging vandalism.

The only problem is the injection of the writer’s opinion or views. Often Politically Correctness BS sneaks in as well. You end up with something that may or may not be fact but just regrinding of one side of the story.

You would be a whole lot better off with an encyclopedia.
Wikipedia is just not a good source for information.

Hah, I read the article on the origins of Easter. It’s priceless! I can’t wait to see “Jesus and the Deciples” live! Come on armegedeon!

Oh and Jimbo, while I agree there is some bias in some articles, I think overall Wikipedia serves as a good source for general information on a subject. If you want to look something up quickly it is great and for the most part reliable.

I’m not saying you should write a research paper using it as your main source though.
