but doesnt a goldfishes memory only last for 5 minutes then forgets everything it learns?

I've actually seen this done. I was at a shopping mall watching some fish in a tank, when some random chinese dude walked up and started wiggling his fingers. The fish all started to swim in sync. I figure it has something to do with "schooling", they see the wiggling and think its other fish and follow it.
