Callanish.

These weird stones are found in Calanais or Callanish I site in Scotland. The stones, dated from about 1800 BC, are arranged in a circle with the middle stone being the tallest (about 16 feet tall).

Scientists speculate that these stones, like Stonehenge in the UK, serve an astronomical purpose. Local legend, however, is more colorful:

Local tradition explains the presence of these stones by saying that when giants of old who then lived on the island refused to be Christianed, St.Kieran turned them to stone.
