Non-Newtonian Liquid Pool.

By yayo in Science & Tech, Video Clips on Nov 12, 2006 at 3:21 pm

A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid in which the viscosity changes with the applied strain rate. As a result, non-Newtonian fluids may not have a well-defined viscosity.

I think this explains the ‘Walk on water action’ of that Jesus Christ action figure.

If it turns viscous when you touch it, how do you know whether its ever less viscous?

By holding some in the palm of your hand, Miss Cellania–it starts going all soft after a few short seconds, and then drips right through your fingers. Kids get a huge kick out of playing with the gooshy stuff!

A non-newtonian liquid is otherwise fluid, unless you apply pressure to it (like running really fast on it), then it has solid-like properties. That’s why when the guy stands, he sinks!

They did this once in the tv program Brainiac.. had this guy run across a pool filled with custard.
