What’s this giant equilateral triangle in the desert near the city of Surprise, Arizona for?

Update 8/21/06: Neatorama reader Jim Voss wrote: The mysterious triangle near Surprise, AZ is intriguing. I discovered a twist just to the southeast of the aforementioned triangle – an exact duplicate but turned 90 degrees ccw, at this location: 33deg 43min 07.77sec N / 112deg 31min 39.51sec W
This triangle is superimposed on an airstrip and may indicate, in some way, the significance of the other. Who knows?

This is an old and abandoned army air corp field. It is called “Luke Aux. #4″ :)

It’s the play button on the earth. Don’t worry, it was pushed by divine fingers long ago.

The race for the stop and rewind buttons is on!

    Surprise!

There are at least THREE MORE mysterious triangles within 10 miles of the one posted. That’s rather a lot of abandoned air bases per square mile, isn’t it?

The posted triangle can be found by typing the following into http://www.google.com/local:
    N 258th Ave, Wittmann, AZ

All of the triangles are very close to being exactly the same size. All of the additional ones point west rather than north, and also all have a crossbar facing east-west.

The second triangle is near W Beacon Lane, Wittmann, AZ
This one is partly obscured by what looks kind of like a newer, longer runway on the SW side. I really like the “X marks the spot” features near the NW and SE ends of the long “runway”. Maybe these are the “close window” buttons?

The third triangle is near W Norwich Dr, Surprise, AZ (About 1 mile NNW of the junction of hwys 60 & 303)

The fourth one is right in town at:
    W Curveball Lane, Surprise, AZ
This one is partly obscured by new construction if zoomed in too far. Zoom out and you can see the entire triangle!

At a scale of 2 miles/5 km, you can see all four at once if you position the first one at the upper left of the screen. They trail off to the ESE, except the last once is SE of the third one.

That’s fishy. How’s a plane supposed to land on a triangle?
    I smell a cover-up.

Hola, no te has fijado que en verdad no hay 2 sino 3 triángulos equiláteros?

El tercero que supongo no has visto porque está medio “tapado” por una ciudad en construcción está en estas coordenadas:

    33º42’11.77” N
    112º25’02.65” W

Look at what the road on the top of the triangle is leading to! it looks like a hole in the ground?
