In Loving Memory of Petunia.

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on March 7, 2006 at 1:38 pm

If you’re wondering why there has been no new post on Neatorama, it is because yesterday evening, Petunia, our basset hound passed away. She had been a very cute, loyal, and at times stubborn yet always charming and loving member of our family for nearly 10 years.

Petunia was diagnosed with cancer not long ago, and we tried to fill the last weeks of her life with as many walks and cookies as she wanted.

We are grateful that we had the little extra time to enjoy her wonderful company. We will always miss you, Petunia.

Love,
Alex and Tiffany.

PS. I will be back with new posts after a short break. I have enjoyed working on Neatorama, watching it grow quickly in readership, and most of all – reading all of your comments. This blog is dedicated to Petunia – mouseover to see her dream about her most favorite thing in the world.

I'm sorry for your dog's death, and good that you had such a good time together on her last days.

Neatorama is amazing, so cool. I'm an asidous reader and I understand your silence.

Carry on the good work carry on the smiles!

I am so sorry for your loss. What a great thing you did for your dog though, I'm sure it made her last days more comfortable and pleased her very much. I am sure she was a very happy dog and appreciated the love and kindness you showed her. My thoughts are with you and your family during this time.

So very sorry to hear about your dog. Pets can make such an impact on your life, can't they? I know how grief-stricken I was when we had to have our cat Marcie put down a couple of years ago.

I'm so sorry for your loss. In time, you will find that Petunia has left a dog-shaped hole in your life that only a new dog can fill. But for now, I hope the pain soon fades and the happy memories are with you forever.

[...] Which isn’t to say other things in my life have come to me easily. I’ve had a wonderful 21 year Marriage (our 22nd anniversary is coming up April 28th). But it certainly hasn’t always been great, and at times, it’s been very painful. At other times, it is incredibly joyful. I’ve raised two kids, certainly always a mixed experience. Even pets are sometimes sick and eventually, we do lose them, which brings us great sadness. I’ve lost my parents, several friends, and had my share of heartaches. [...]

It's ok. Your site is wonderful but your feelings truly do come first. Like people have said, take all the time you want.

Loseing a pet is a hard thing and takes a long time to heal. Do take care. You and Petunia are in my prayers.

So sorry to hear of your loss. People who don't have animals sometimes don't realize the extent to which people really love them and think of them as part of the family, how deservedly they are loved, and how much love they give in return.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Your pets become like children to you over time.
I lost my dog in 2001, he was 14, and I still miss him now. I'd had him since I was 14 and it was a bad time for me but things do get better over time, I promise. The best thing is is that you will always have your memories to cherish.
    Take it easy. Steve.

    Hello everyone,

Tiffany and I are very touched by your kind words and support. Thank you for the outpouring of support, calls, and emails - they mean a lot to us and had made this difficult time a little easier to bear.

I'd also like to thank those who wrote that they enjoy the site. Neatorama is a labor of love (my wife would say an obsession), and I'm glad that it brings a little enjoyment to its readers.

For those who just recently lost their pets, please accept our sympathies - we know how it feels. Pets are loving members of a family and their deaths can affect us greatly.

We will continue to cherish the memory of Petunia and will lovingly honor her life for the rest of ours.

    Warmest regards,
    Alex and Tiffany.

    Hi Alex:

I am so sorry to learn that Petunia finally pass away. I was very shock and sad just as you. She is definitely a cute and loyal dog I came to know since I first meet her at your house. I will never forget the way she ask for food. she will scracth the sliding door and let you know what she really want. She never bark and she always pay attention to you if you waive for her. I will always remember her. she is also very unique to me. Hope you feel better as time goes by.

I'm sorry to read about your loss. I'm sure that Petuina will be waiting for you on the other side of "Rainbow Bridge". I still miss my "Lucky" since I had to have her put to sleep due to cancer. My heart truly goes out to you. These wonderful creatures that allow us to share our homes with them are not "pets", but are adopted family members and are loved and cherished.
