Walking around staring at your smartphone all day was boring before Pokémon GO, the game that gives big virtual prizes for trainers who stay tuned in to the app at all times.
And the more time you spend staring at your screen the less likely you are to notice all the horrible and dangerous places Pokémon GO addiction has taken you, plus you can find rare Pokémon!
This "banned" trailer created by Parody Patrol reveals the dark side of Pokémon GO addiction, it's like a PSA for Pokémon trainers only way more real than any PSA you've ever seen!
It seems like the best part about being a superhero would be the powers/abilities, the pride in knowing you've helped make the world a better place, or the fact that you get to hang out with other supers.
There was one gag that would come up often in comedies made in the latter half of the 20th century which I never fully understood- the old lady yelling “masher!” at a man and beating him about the head with her purse.
"just a plain cad. The first article in a gentleman's code is to show all respect to ladies. The masher ignores this unwritten law. He forces his attentions on women to whom he is a stranger ... A masher is a coward too, for he knows that an unescorted can only express her resentment by ignoring him."
The masher discussion is just as relevant today as it was a hundred years ago, but back then women were forced to take the matter into their own hands- by stabbing mashers with hatpins.
The term masher became synonymous with male harassers after it was used in an article describing an incident in which Leoti Blaker stabbed a masher with her hatpin on a New York City stagecoach:
Shortly after she sat down next to him, he kept inching closer to her even as she scooted away for personal space. When he curled his arm around her back, she stabbed him in the arm with her hatpin, maintaining a calm expression all the while. She did not react as the man screamed in pain, and he exited the stagecoach at the next stop.
Blaker added that a man would be "tarred and feathered for daring to insult a woman by such persistent actions" in Oskaloosa, Iowa, where she spent some of her younger years.
Now that catcalling and street harassment has become a hot button issue once again we should dust off that old chestnut of a word and start screaming "MASHER!" whenever
Tourists who get lost in the mountains while traveling abroad hope to come across a mountain rescue team or, at very least, a local who speaks their language who can help them get back to their lodgings.
But chances are they wouldn't see a cat as a rescuer, that is, until they hear about the cat Redditor sc4s2cg met in Switzerland.
Sc4s2cg claims he went hiking in the mountains near his hostel and got lost, eventually coming across an abandoned town.
According to his map the only official trail back to his hostel was closed, but then a helpful little kitty guide came up to him and showed him another trail down the mountain.
Blizzard has made a big impression on the multiplayer community once again with Overwatch, a squad-based game that's every bit as nice to look at as it is to play.
The characters in Overwatch are designed to have lots of visual appeal, and each one has a unique set of abilities and skills that make them stand out in the crowd.
But, as Redditor karhall discovered, the character designs don't really say much to his uninitiated mother about who each character is inside their "space suit" or what they can do in battle.
karhall asked his mom to give each character a nickname and describe them based on their looks, and her answers were so "mom" and so great he started posting them on his Tumblr site.
Video game developers should note karhall's research and start holding focus groups full of moms who have never played the game, because their thoughts about the characters could help shape the final design.
But if they do these brave developers should expect lots of cute...
According to Rick Harrison working in a pawn shop means never knowing what's gonna come through that door, and as anyone who has watched Pawn Stars knows people try to sell him some pretty strange stuff.
But I wonder how much Rick and his fam would pay for these Pawn Stars memes?
He'd definitely lowball the meme creators, and then Rick would have to get the memes appraised and try to keep Chumlee from playing with them too much, but from there it's pure profit!
It's mind boggling how many memes and dumb jokes have been made based on Rick's Pawn Stars intro monologue, and equally puzzling why these dumb memes keep making me laugh!
Famous people often have a lot going on in their lives, their days jam packed with really important things to do, but at the end of it all their busy lives are summed up in a paragraph or two.
Actually, a paragraph is way more than needed to describe the famous lives of many famous folks, because their famously two-dimensional careers can be effectively summarized in just six words.
Now that's not to say these pop culture icons aren't worthy of a full length bio, but the internet prefers nuggets of information rather than the whole turkey so six words to describe famous folks it is!
Have you ever seen a picture of someone holding an animal and thought “what the hell kinda critter is that?”
It usually winds up being a cat or a dog or a ferret, or something just as basic, but the big black thing wilderness expert Coyote Peterson is holding in the picture above isn't basic at all.
It's a giant black slug, a giant black sea hare to be exact, and it can weigh up to 30 lbs.
Hunting a sea slug the size of a small dog for his new series "Beyond The Tide" is one thing, but if Coyote starts leash training one of these suckers we'll know he's in need of professional help!
Procrastination is a really hard habit to break, and for some seems like an inherent trait rather than a habit, but there are pros to being a procrastinator too.
You're generally more relaxed about deadlines, you know the minimum amount of time needed to finish a project, and it all began when you learned how to be a homework ninja and get reports done the day they were due.
So what are the cons? We'll come up with those later... (Barely NSFW due to language)
Cartoonist Dominic Panganiban of Domics created this animated short to illustrate the pros and cons of procrastination, proving that procrastinators can and do actually finish projects!
Everybody's talking about dad jokes these days, making fathers out to be the funniest member of the family.
But mom's got jokes too, guys, she's just isn't as quick to quip as dad, but once she gets going a mom can make her kids wet their pants with laughter.
Many moms have also mastered the art of abstract humor, making their jokes more memorable and therefore more likely to paint a picture that will stick with her kids for the rest of their lives.
As kids head back to school parents are reminded of all the teachers they've loved and hated in their lifetime, remembering what it was like to sit in their classes and deal with the school day dramedy.
Teachers leave a lasting impression on kids, whether good or bad, but educators who go the extra mile to make sure their students learn their lessons while actually wanting to go to class deserve a medal.
We've all had those stern, strict and downright draining teachers who nitpicked us to death and expected absolute conformity in the classroom, the teachers who made us hate school.
So hearing about the many teachers out there who are driving their students crazy in a good way these days gives us hope for our children's future.
Plus they make school open house nights way more enjoyable for all!
A marine ecology department team from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada conducted a research dive to study starfish off the coast of Bamfield when students Tella Osler and Beau Doherty came across something interesting.
It was a digital camera covered in algae and other sea life, with two brittle stars and a sea cucumber setting up shop inside the camera.
After asking around online, and pinning the man's picture up on a local bulletin board, Côté and Gray discovered the camera belonged to Paul Burgoyne, who had been rescued from a shipwreck by the Coast Guard back in 2012.
Burgoyne was thrilled to have his pictures back, and the research group learned that sea cucumbers and starfish don't mind using our cameras as condos after we're done with them.
People tend to forget that Japan isn't called Japan in Japanese (it's called Nihon) or that Germany is actually the Budesrepublik Deutschland to the Germans, but these endonyms are an important part of a country's identity.
An endonym is the name for a place, site or location in the language of the people who live there. These names may be officially designated by the local government or they may simply be widely used.
And yet the average map doesn't include these endonyms, so people are left wondering what a suomen tasavalta or rzeczpospolita polska is when they see it written somewhere.
At Endonym Map you can see what all the countries of the world call themselves in their official or national language, on a large, nice looking map which the site is constantly striving to improve:
The vast majority of names come from the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographic Names and the U.N.'s database of country names. Other sources include the CIA World Fact Book, Wikipedia and various government websites.
One big change I am exploring is the inclusion of minority language endonyms in some fashion. I would love to put all three official languages for Belgium on the map, or both Ireland and Éire for that matter. But with the limited space on a fixed map, there's just not room to do it fairly for all countries. And it bugs me to no end that places like South Africa and India have a dozen or so recognized languages, but there's only room on the map for one. But I am working on it and hopefully will come to a solution soon.
The Dudeoir photo trend has brought us some amazing(ly hairy) moments we'll likely never forget, and a few which were so horrific they made us want to burn out our eyeballs.
But the average dudes who dare to get sexy and take it almost all off for a pin-up style photo shoot are a rare breed indeed, and best photographed while they're feeling frisky.
And while he may not be as fit or hairless as Hasselhoff was while filming Baywatch Joshua has one thing in common with The Hoff- an unforgettable screen presence.
