The bad thing about Halloween being over is you no longer have an excuse to wear a costume to work, and jack-o-lanterns no longer light up the porches in your neighborhood.
The good thing about Halloween being over is you get to eat all the leftover candy, and blog readers send in pics of themselves all dressed up in their finest, and geekiest, costumes!
Peruse the gallery of reader submitted costume pics over at Geeks Are Sexy and choke back those tears that well up when you realize that Halloween is well and truly over...until next year...*sigh*
The amazing mural works of Australian street artist Shida aren't lacking in style or detail, and they certainly don't look like every other painting slapped on a wall.
Shida excels in the use of color, intricate linework and designing characters that look like delicate monsters, beautiful yet edgy and full of pointy bits.
By day the High Trestle Trail Bridge in Des Moines, Iowa looks pretty normal, aside from the tilted steel beams above the footpath, but at night the bridge lights up and blows minds.
Here's more on this brightly glowing bridge:
Towering 13 stories above the Des Moines River Valley in Iowa, The High Trestle Trail Bridge is one of the largest foot bridges in the world. Completed last year, the bridge now comes complete with one of the best examples of public art I’ve seen in a long time. Designed by David B. Dahlquist of RDG Dahlquist Art Studio, the steel beams that swirl around the bridge not only accentuates the motion of pedestrians moving back and forth across the bridge but also create a gorgeous op-art effect that makes you feel as though you’re in the middle of a surreal stop motion animation.
The Pacific Northwest is home to lots of unexplained phenomena and general wierdness, especially around Halloween, so those who embrace the darkside probably won't find the Davis Graveyard in Milwaukie, Oregon to be terrifying.
However, here's what this amateur yard display has going for it, and why haunt fans from across the country should pay a visit:
they have LOTS of Haunted Mansion references -- a full-sized horse-drawn hearse, a skeleton trying to get out of a coffin, a singing statue who briefly recites the Ghost Host's narration, and a replica of the frightened gravedigger. And that's just the icing on top of all the geeky pop-culture references on the gravestones, the excellent projected ghosts, etc.
The 2012 HallowMEME party looks like it was a real blast, with all the dorkiest internet memes in attendance including Ehrmagherd, Gangnam style and a victim of human breading.
Started by Forced Meme Productions in 2009, this internet meme-themed Halloween costume party takes place in Brooklyn, New York and keeps getting bigger every year, with several hundred people in attendance this year despite the fact that Hurricane Sandy was knocking on the door.
La Luna is a Pixar short with a lot of heart, a story of passing down family traditions no matter how unusual and an absolutely gorgeous film to watch.
With thematic elements reminiscent of The Little Prince and Nemo's Adventures In Slumberland, this is yet another classic short to add to Pixar's already impressive catalog of great CGI films.
It's hard to break character when you're a video game superstar because everyone expects you to do your moves while wearing your signature outfit.
Halloween means you're even more typecast, so some characters to decide to play up their lot in virtual life and dish out the tricks, regardless of whether their chances of getting treats are ruined.
There are obscure costumes based on The Simpsons and then there's this: a costume of "stupid sexy Flanders" as seen in the episode Little Big Mom.
The memory of Flanders wiggling his butt made Homer lose control on the slopes, so did this costume clad Halloweenie got the same reaction when people saw them wearing this hilarious costume?!
Batman sure has his work cut out for him, trying to restore order in Gotham City while defending himself against not one but two super villains named Bane.
One is human, which makes him easy enough to deal with, but this pug named Bane is able to take down an entire city with the power of cuteness.
How will Batman ever take down such an adorable foe? One word-Snausages!
Le Cochon Danseur (the dancing pig) is a film oddity from 1907, based on a vaudeville act, which stars a lascivious pig headed fellow with eyes for the young lady with whom he shares a stage.
According to Know Your Meme, it's the last bit of this strange short that made it so well known:
...most noticed part of the play is the last 20 seconds, showing the pig flailing his tongue and laughing showing his sharp, scary teeth. Most people thought this was rather disturbing and focused mainly on this part because of it. Other then that, the rest of the clip is the pig winking and boggling his eyes in strange ways
Sounds like this little piggy skipped the market and went straight off the deep end!
Waffles the bucking corgi had one heck of a fun Halloween, because he got to live out his dreams of being a big old bull in a world full of tiny humans.
Waffles sure is a happy little guy, and unlike most dogs he seems to really like wearing his costume. Can't wait to see what he dresses up as next year!
The quest to find a new director worthy of guiding the Star Wars saga in the right direction has begun, and celeb filmmakers such as Woody Allen, Kevin Smith and Michael Moore are vying for the job in these hilarious audition tapes courtesy of Conan.
Kevin Smith would be a good choice, but a Star Wars movie directed by Woody Allen would be too talky, and Michael Moore would just turn the whole thing into a documentary about the injustices suffered by the universe at the hands of Jabba the Hutt!
Destroying an antique book seems like a shame, but if the book in question is being turned into such an incredibly cool work of art then maybe it's a worthwhile endeavor after all.
Here's how crafty book lover Alexander Korzer-Robinson creates these wonderfully intricate collages:
Alexander Korzer-Robinson delves into antiquarian books, cutting out everything except the images on each page, leaving them in their proper order. The element of randomness inherent in these pages-deep collages is part of what attracts him to the medium. ”By using pre-existing media as a starting point,” he writes, “certain boundaries are set by the material, which I aim to transform through my process.
Ramon Bruin creates playful illustrations that actually look like they're leaping off the page, and the way he photographs them interacting with the world around them completes this realistic effect in style.
Ramon uses an airbrush to render his illusionary illustrations because "The airbrushing technique makes it possible to display different densities of color by creating various gradients."
