The Bodega Cats Of NYC

(YouTube Link)

What do cats that live in New York bodegas do all day? Oh, the usual-scratch stuff, hole up in a secret nest made out of a shipping box, and occasionally offer to help the customers with their milk. For more on the subject, check out the vid created by Internets Celebrities, who discover how kitties make the interwebs go round.

Marvel Comics Posters At Their Most Minimal

Superheroes are hitting the big screen hard these days, and comic books are more popular and finely illustrated than ever before. So what's missing? How about a minimalist approach to the symbolism behind the heroes, the logos as art with a vintage poster appeal. Take a gander at these pop art inspired poster designs by Marko Manev and see if you can recognize them without reading the names at the bottom.

Pokemon With An Edge

These aren't the little critters that have been driving kids, and parents, crazy for over 15 years, but personally I find these designs by Gavin Mackey far more appealing. Gotta catch 'em all? More like make sure they don't catch you, alone in the dark...

Personal Brewery Delivers Fresh Beer In A Week

If you love the suds but hate the difficulty and month of waiting for your tasty brew to be ready, then this self contained home brewery might be just what you need. The personal brewery combines the stages of fermentation and carbonation, which greatly accelerates the brewing process and delivers a 50 pint batch faster than you can drink what you brewed last week. For now, it can only make light ales, and it's daunting $5000 price tag might keep it from flying off the shelves, but this shiny little wonder will definitely get better, and cheaper in the future and may make brewing at home the only way to fly.

Unique Hand Stitched Leather Bowser

What could possibly make such a cool looking Bowser figure, complete with movable arms, wrists and head and hammer, even cooler? Make him out of leather. This rugged little version of the big bad boss carries a price tag worthy of his royal stature-$300, over at the artist Megan's custom toy site. This may be one expensive hunk of leather, but at least you'll have something to brag about.

Cool 3D Short-Defective Bigbot

Defective Bigbot Short from Michele Boldoni on Vimeo.

A group of friends put together this cute CGI short about a defective robot, and it looks quite nice considering these amateurs had no experience as professional animators. It's no surprise that they all found jobs while making the short, they definitely have the skills! Hear what the artists have to say about the project at the Vimeo link above.

(YouTube Link)

Anybody who built tracks for their Hot Wheels as a kid will drool when they see this incredible setup! Metropolis II is an amazing, kinetic work of art by Chris Burden that measures 20x30 feet, and features over 1200 matchbox cars that travel at speeds up to 200 scale mph. John Farrier first wrote about this spectacular feat of micro-engineering back in November of 2010, and now it can be seen, live in all its massive glory, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art beginning this fall. The Electric Car That Can Power Your House

Who needs a generator when you've got the Nissan Leaf, an 100% electric car that can power your house for 2 days via the "Leaf-to-home" system, a converter that attaches to your home's electric panel and allows for the car's lithium-ion battery to provide power when it may be otherwise unavailable. With the people of Japan still recovering from the recent disasters, Nissan feels that a symbiotic relationship between electric car and home may be just the thing to keep the lights on when everything else around you is falling to pieces. http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2011-08/nissan-rolls-out-system-lets-leaf-serve-backup-battery-japanese-households -via PopSci Image via Tom Rafferty at Wikimedia

The Robot That Can Think For Itself

(YouTube Link)

A robot that can learn, think and act for itself might make some people lose sleep over the possibility of a Terminator-esque robotic revolution, but scientists in Japan feel that this advancement in the field of robotics is a good thing, and may revolutionize how our mechanized workforces handle the tasks they're designed to perform . Watch as this robot figures out how to do something it was never taught to do-pour a glass of ice water. Utterly fascinating to watch? Perhaps not, but this leap forward in artificial intelligence means science fiction is rapidly becoming science fact. Link -via Wired

Beluga Whale Enjoys Mariachi Band Performance

(YouTube Link)

Whether or not this whale is enjoying the show is up for debate, but one thing is certain-his eyes are locked on the mariachis as they play. Maybe it's their shiny suits or instruments that have caught the whales attention, or maybe he's just wishing he could grab all three men and drown them in his tank! -via BoingBoing
