Guardians of Friendship - The Galaxy Awaits

Guardians of Friendship by Omar Feliciano

They were two oddballs who became fast friends, a raccoon and a tree man who battled through days of boredom with their imaginations on a forest moon far, far away. Rocket always led the adventure, coming up with a suitable story about saving the galaxy and making lots of units, while Groot did his usual routine of looking cute and saying I Am Groot about everything. They had no idea about the fame and fortune that awaited them in the future, because for today they were just two friends out on an afternoon adventure.

Bring the power of imagination to your geeky wardrobe with this Guardians of Friendship t-shirt by Omar Feliciano, and share your love of intergalactic adventure with the world!

First Graders Of 1988 Make Predictions About The Year 2000

(Images Via August 18, 1988 New Castle News in Pennsylvania)

Kids are generally a pretty optimistic bunch, without any cynicism or prejudice to color their view of the world, and because of this positivity their outlook on the future is usually pretty fantastic.

In the past their ideas about the future involved flying cars, space exploration, and a world full of computer screens and cool inventions.

However, in the year 1988 kids were already starting to look at the future in a more realistic light, and their ideas about the year 2000 were some of the most mundane answers ever given to questions about the future.

Little Catherine Book, seen here striking her best future movie starlet pose, had this to say about houses in the future:

They'll build the houses so they have zig zags. Then they'll have trees on the outside of the zig zag so if a skunk tries to walk through the house they can't because the ends will be so sharp that they'll prick them.

And shy Brad Shaffer shared this startling revelation about the future of his family's home:

My house will get older and more spider webs . . . It'll just get more unless my mother cleans it.

It seems kids in 1988 had already accepted the disappointing reality awaiting them in the new millenium, and they were tired of animated propaganda like The Jetsons spreading lies about the future.

Spam Emails Brought To Life In Dramatic Photo Series

Spam emails can sometimes paint a pretty vivid picture, whether warning you about some imaginary activity happening to your account or telling a sob story about all the hardships the sender is currently experiencing.

Spammers try to tell a tale that will convince you to send money, or personal information, basically trying to successfully scam you out of your hard earned dough with storytelling.

Photographer Cristina De Middel saw the stories being told by Nigerian business opportunists, Russian widows awaiting a massive inheritance, or British cancer victims looking for help donating their riches, and decided to bring them to life in pictures.

The spam emails that inspired Cristina's photo series Poly-Spam are posted alongside the images on her site, so you can better understand what these poor fake people are going through in each picture. I'll never look at a spam email the same way again!

KFC Japan Is Giving Away Fried Chicken Keyboard, Earrings And More

KFC Japan has come up with an appropriately Japanese way to promote their fried food product- computer peripherals and earrings shaped like their famous “keñtakkii sutairu” golden fried chicken.

Fried chicken fans can win a USB mouse or thumb drive shaped like a drumstick, or some shiny dangling drumstick earrings by following KFC Japan’s Twitter account and tweeting about the contest with the hashtag “#KFCカーナルズデー” (“KFC Colonel’s Day”).

One lucky winner will be selected for each item, while the rest of the entrants are left dreaming of a day when fried chicken isn't just for dinner anymore.

Doc In A Box: Tardis Lovers - Space Cadets

Doc In A Box: Tardis Lovers by Crocktees

When the 10th and 11th Doctors had a chance meeting in a rather silly pocket of the universe they just couldn't help but act like total goofballs. They'd both just come from a rather lonely island, on a planet full of timber lakes and sam bergs, and they were both feeling a bit funny. They both started singing a melody that had been floating through their heads about the doc in a box, then gave each other a knowing smile and proceeded to lay down the whole track in one take! Too bad there was nobody there to see it happen, or record their session of silliness...

Show the world your sci-fi silly side with this Doc In A Box: Tardis Lovers t-shirt by Crocktees, it's a geeky masterpiece that will instantly put the song that inspired the design into your head!

Burglars And Dragons - Halfling Home Entertainment

Burglars and Dragons by Pacalin

Kids were lining up for days to buy Burglars and Dragons, expecting a roleplaying adventure type game that would take them days to finish and send their character across a magical world, but the end result was a bit disappointing. The gameplay consisted of sneaking around the dragon's den, trying to stay as quiet as possible so as not to wake the dragon, which was programmed to be impossible. When the dragon was inevitably awakened the Halfling burglar would have to talk his way out of the situation with his life, which sounds a lot more interesting than it really is...

Add some geeky game to your wardrobe with this Burglars and Dragons t-shirt by Pacalin, it's cheaper than buying an actual console game and the fun lasts way longer!

Beavis and his buddy Butthead taught us some pretty important lessons about life- don't bang your head too hard or you might mess up your brain, don't let teenage boys borrow anything, especially tools for the yard, and that helpful bit about the t.p. taught by that wisest of incarnations Cornholio.

Cooking On Mars - SpaceX Engineer Discusses Cooking And Eating Bugs

More and more people are coming around to the idea of eating bugs, and that’s a good thing because when traditional sources of protein grow scarce chances are there will still be tons of bugs.

(YouTube Link)

SpaceX engineer Andrew Rader created this deliciously informative video to demonstrate how easy it is to prepare a meal made from mealworms and crickets (and a lone scorpion) and dine like a space colonist.

Here's what Andrew is proposing:

We're going to Mars - but what are we going to eat? If we want to become a spacefaring people, we should consider broadening our culinary horizons.

Non-synthetic meat in a space colony makes no sense. At least most kinds of meat: shellfish and some kinds of fish might be options, but the best option in terms of efficiency and ease of production is to do what billions of people on our planet already do: eat insects.

As I discovered, it takes some getting used to :)

Homeowner Discovers Hilariously Rude Note Under Floorboard While Renovating

Most home buyers go about renovating their new home without thinking about the structure’s past, like who had a hand in building the place and when the building took place.

Sometimes renovations are necessary, sometimes they're done simply for the sake of aesthetic appeal, but no matter the human motivation the home itself doesn’t have anything to say about the renovations.

However, new homeowner Alex Robinson discovered he recently bought a house that doesn’t appreciate renovations, and isn't afraid to tell its new owner exactly how it feels.

As Alex was working on the floors in his newly purchased row house in historic Charlestown, Massachusetts he discovered a board bearing a message to the discoverer:

The board reads:

And America at war to fight Germany.

Threshold 5/10/41 by Albert Stella this floor was laid. Go f*** yourself.

Now that's how a builder leaves a bit of themselves behind!

Drums West- A Rediscovered Paper Cutout Animated Short By Jim Henson

Jim Henson experimented with many different modes of artistic expression during his far too brief life, and even though he’s best known for his amazing puppetry he was also quite the accomplished 2D animator.

Henson’s animated shorts were often created in order to explore new techniques, mediums or, in the case of this rediscovered paper cutout short from 1961, a way to bring the rhythms of jazz to life.

(YouTube Link)

Jim and frequent collaborator Jerry Juhl used hundreds of pieces of construction paper to bring Chico Hamilton's snazzy solo Drums West to life, creating a kaleidoscopic visualization of jazz rhythm that'll put you in a trance.

This colorful short was rediscovered in 2013 by The Jim Henson Company, who added behind-the-scenes footage to show all the hard work that went into this deceptively simple paper cutout short before they re-shared it with the world.

Bearded Dude Recreates Women's Dating Selfies From Tinder

People used to carefully select the photos added to their dating profiles on sites like Match.com and eHarmony, but because Tinder users choose who they want to date simply by looking at a photo the site's daters are happy to let it all hang out.

Tinder users would rather show you how carefree and crazy they are, thinking this will make them more virtually approachable and therefore land them more dates.

Instead, these "fun and fancy free" photos have drawn the attention of a bearded fellow named Jarrod Allen- Australian Instagrammer, acclaimed selfie parodist and Tinder's worst nightmare.

Jarrod's spot-on recreations of women's Tinder pics have brought out the sexy side of the bearded man, and might make lonely Tinder users think twice before they post such ridiculously cheesy photos to their profile.

Or they'll become one of the thousands of people following Jarrod's Instagram account @Tindafella, hoping they become his next target!
