A Weird And Wonderful Trip To The Doll Hospital

Parents like to tell their children that broken dolls or teddy bears will be taken to the doll hospital for medical attention, to fill their young minds with a sense of wonder and spare them from the fact that their beloved toy is beyond repair.

I've always assumed the doll hospital was a product of some caring parent’s imagination, but as these photographs by Jason Reed prove the doll hospital is a real, and magical, place after all.

The Sydney Doll Hospital has been repairing cherished children’s toys since 1913, bringing dolls both plastic and porcelain, teddy bears and many other types of toys back to life with tender loving care.

Jason's photographs reveal the specialized skills involved in this labor of love, and the people who gladly use their crafting know-how to make children's lives a bit brighter.

Let This Guy Be Your Guide To An Ugly LSU Frat Brawl

When a bunch of frat boys started brawling their yuppified brains out on the LSU parade grounds one intrepid reporter dared to film the fight with his smartphone, adding his own comedic reactions to the tragic scene:

(YouTube Link)

His name is Skinny Vadamalez, and he just happened to find himself ringside for the Greek letter organization battle of the month, which gave birth to a brief yet hilarious video he called "When White People Fight".

Skinny's emoting skills are sure to land him a job providing silent color commentary for the UFC, and his candid footage may lead to several arrests!

A Scary Good Spawn Fan Film

The Hellspawn anti-hero known simply as Spawn has starred in dozens of different comic series spanning hundreds of issues, an amazing yet short lived animated series, and a pretty bad live action film.

So why is this badass comic book character, with so much movie storyline potential, still waiting around for a decent movie adaptation?

Your guess is as good as mine, but until we get to see that great big screen movie we’ll just have to settle for this awesome short film by Irissee entitled Spawn: The Recall.

On second thought, settle really isn’t the right word, since this fan film is more fun to watch than the '97 movie!

Hollywood movie studios need to help Todd McFarlane's hellish anti-hero out, he's only been around for twenty some odd years, isn't it about time he got a decent movie treatment?!

Salvador Dali's Illustrations For The Twelve Signs Of The Zodiac

Salvador Dali wasn’t known for being a particularly spiritual person, although he believed that he was a reincarnation of his dead older brother.

He believed in mathematics and science over religion or superstition, but he was also known for capitalizing on a trend or two in order to make a quick buck.

The profit driven side of Dali led him to create an illustrated version of the twelve signs of the Zodiac, which were released in 1967 as limited edition lithographs meant to capitalize on public's renewed interest in all things astrological.

Dali replaced the Cancer crab with a lobster, as an homage to his earlier works, but left the rest of the Zodiac icons virtually unchanged, his surrealist vision focused on the use of color and texture rather than the radical reconstruction of their forms.

Trailer For Tim Burton's Upcoming Movie Big Eyes

Tim Burton is known for his kooky creature creations, his dark and quirky sense of humor, and the touch of classic cinematic style he adds to every film, and since he's always reinventing himself fans will always find something new to love about his movies.

Burton has created many different kinds of films, such as supernatural comedies, stop motion animated fantasies, dark sci-fi flicks and lighthearted family films, and now he's adding a new genre to his collection- the biographical drama.

(YouTube Link)

Tim Burton's upcoming film Big Eyes is based on the life of artist Margaret Keane, whose paintings of bug eyed kids and critters caused quite a stir in the pop art world in the 60s and 70s.

Big Eyes looks like it will be an interesting change of pace for the prolific filmmaker, adding yet another dimension to the visionary's incredibly diverse cinematic career.

Logic Power - A Vulcan Revolutionary

Logic Power by Chibi T-Shirts

Spock had always been a fan of revolution, especially when it involved people fighting for their basic rights against an unjust ruler, but there was something about Earth's 1960s that really captured his imagination. He pictured himself marching on Washington, giving extremely logical speeches about how all people should be treated equally, and shouting "Power to the People!" while sporting a shaggy afro wig. But when the crew of the Enterprise saw Spock marching around the corridors shouting and pumping his fist in the air they knew something had to be done about this flight of fancy before the whole thing became another protest related tragedy...

Metallic Shield - Superheroes And Super Spies

If the super secret agency known as SHIELD ever had to choose a color to represent their agency chances are they'd choose either black or metallic silver. Black is the color of stealth, the nothingness of midnight and the ever present forces of evil they battle against, metallic silver is the color of the weapons, be they guns or power armor, they use to take down the bad guys. Designers Reveal The Typography Found In Everyday Objects

Human beings are surrounded by shapes and letters, at least according to our human eyes, which are always busy spotting the work of some invisible scribe in objects all around us.

Writers/designers Steven Heller and Gail Anderson have put together an inspirational sourcebook called The Typographic Universe: Letterforms Found In Nature, The Built World, And Human Imagination that reveals the typography we think we see all around us.

With sections revealing the letters found in the garden, in home furnishings, and even the letters formed by parts of the human body, you can be sure that no stone was left unturned in the making of this compelling sourcebook.

Seeing the typography of the everyday world is easy if you know what you're looking for, but be forewarned- once you start seeing the typography all around us you won't be able to stop seeing letters everywhere!

Hand Stitched Portraits Reflect Life In The Digital Age

As we become more reliant on technology in our everyday lives our relationship with the digital age becomes more complicated, and we find ourselves growing more accustomed to having a part of our lives that is purely digital.

Between entertainment, social media and mundane tasks like shopping or banking we’re constantly relying on technology to keep us linked in to a global digital network driven by interaction, but aren't we losing a bit of ourselves in the process?

Melbourne-based artist Catherine Tipping created these masterfully hand stitched portraits that reflect our complicated relationship with the digital age, portraits of people losing a bit of themselves to the digital world.

Catherine's subjects are in the process of being interrupted by digital static and pixelation, like our modern minds are constantly being interrupted by the digital technology that surrounds us.

Vintage MTV Concert Doc - Punks And Poseurs

It’s hard to believe the MTV of today was once a network devoted to music, and thriving subcultures based around music, instead of cheesy reality shows and decidedly non-musical content.

MTV has begun to show music videos once again, but it's safe to say they will never be the trend setters they once were, as this amazing documentary called Punks and Poseurs that aired in 1985 will demonstrate.

(YouTube Link)

This freakin’ rad, totally cutting edge (for its time) concert video features performances by bands like the Dickies and GBH, and footage of perfectly punk writers Pleasant Gehman and Iris Berry trashing the influx of "poseurs" making their way into the L.A. punk scene in the mid-80s.

Covers For Kids Books That Would Warp Young Minds

Children’s books are full of large, illustrated pages oozing with visual appeal, and fun stories crafted to captivate young minds, and when we're all grown up we look back fondly on the times when our parents read our favorite books to us before bed.

So what could have possibly made those beloved children's books even more memorable?

How about gritty covers, with catchy titles like Mummy's Breaking Point, The Futility of Existence, or that all-time classic Lassie Gets Even:

Photoshop funster Bag of Delights created these delightfully dark children's book covers, adding madcap titles to the original artwork to ensure that these twisted tales leave their mark on impressionable young minds.

These twisted cover creations aren't going to make their way onto store shelves anytime soon, but the idea of a kid reading a book about Episcopalian pirates or Death Cults is a bit of a knee slapper!

A Meditative Photo Series About Hermits And Their Woodland Homes

There are many reasons why someone would choose to turn their back on the city and start a new life in the wilds, and yet very few people actually see the move as a feasible option.

Noise, neighbors, pollution, high rent prices and an overwhelming desire to get in touch with nature are all popular reasons for leaving life in the urban jungle behind, but those who actually make the transition are immediately labeled as hermits.

Photographer Danila Tkachenko spent some time with those who dwell in woodland homes far removed from human society, and her intimate portraits reveal the quaint, and often kooky, way of life chosen by these modern day hermits.

There’s a compelling story being told by the photographs in Danila's revealing series Escape- a tale of solitary sadness, survival, and the effects of spending too much time alone with your thoughts.
