This Japanese Apartment Complex Will Be The Perfect Place To Trick-Or-Treat

There’s a fun new apartment complex being built in Osaka, Japan that will be the ultimate place to go trick-or-treating when construction is done, a complex the builders should just go ahead and call Halloween Town.

(Image Link)

The complex is supposed to bring a sense of fairy tale wonder to the town of Hamamatsu, and so there's no mistaking that it's being built with Halloween in mind there are jack-o-lanterns and black cats on many of the roofs.

These whimsical buildings look like a fun and magical place to live, and a total nightmare to upkeep and repair, but it should attract plenty of Halloweenie tenants when construction finishes up just in time for Halloween next year.

The Cat Man From Kyushu

When people in Tokyo need a feline fix they look for the Cat Man From Kyushu and his nine delightfully dour kitty pals.

(Image Link)

The Cat Man from Kyushu (Kyuku Neko Ojisan) pushes his nine furry friends around in a stroller like a bunch of tongue bathing babies, and surprisingly they seem just fine with the whole arrangement, content to lounge while pushed around town.

(Image Link)

The Cat Man is a retiree who fills his days spreading happiness around Tokyo by sharing his cats with the city’s residents, and the cats seem to enjoy being pet as much as the people enjoy petting them!

(Image Link)

However, as you can see in his Facebook photos, the Cat Man is a very modest man, and he prefers to stay out of pictures and let his cats remain the center of attention for the adoring public.

15 Fun Facts About An American Werewolf In London

John Landis isn’t known for his Horror movies, or at least he wasn’t known for them until he released a landmark horror comedy called An American Werewolf In London.

This is the movie that put Landis’ dark side on the map, and Landis showed the world how to make a howling good werewolf movie that's actually fun to watch, something horror filmmakers still can’t seem to get right to this day.

(YouTube Link)

An American Werewolf In London features one of the best werewolf transformation scenes ever made, and the top notch makeup effects created by Rick Baker won the film an Academy Award for Best Makeup in 1981.

This was the first year the Oscars had a Best Makeup category, and ironically the only time a John Landis film has won an Academy Award!

The Wolfman - Full Moon Fever

The Wolfman by Marinasinger Designs

Monsters aren't known for being particularly good party guests, but one guy really knows how to get the monster mash started on the dance floor- the Wolfman. Ol' Wolfie is a howl to hang out with when he's dancing his furry little heart out and loving his lycanthropic life, but don't expect this party animal to rage until dawn, because he loses his bark and bite when the moon goes down. Frankenstein's monster will break all your chairs, zombies leave a real mess, and vampires generally suck all the fun out of the room, but the Wolfman is the original party animal!

When classic horror movie fans see you wearing this The Wolfman t-shirt by Marinasinger Designs they will howl at the moon with delight!

NYCC 2014 Cosplayers Reveal Their Day Jobs

Cosplayers are a rightfully proud bunch who really enjoy getting in to character, even if only for a few hours on the con floor.

However, cosplay isn’t a paying gig for most- it’s a hobby and a way for folks to show off their costuming and fabrication skills.

Everybody's gotta pay the bills somehow, so BuzzFeed asked some of the fabulous cosplayers at New York Comic Con 2014 about their day job, and their answers might surprise you.

Okay, maybe they're not all that surprising, or unexpected, but I was surprised by the sheer variety of answers they received, although student and aspiring something-or-other did come up multiple times.

As for those with very time consuming jobs like psychologist, neuroscientist, and analyst I can't help but wonder- where do they find the time and energy to put together such great costumes?!

The Best Cosplay From New York Comic Con 2014

New York Comic Con officially hosted just over 20,000 more people this year than San Diego Comic Con, making it the largest fandom convention in the land.

(Image Link)

One thing has made NYCC grow in popularity by leaps and bounds over the years- the online publicity created by cosplay photos.

(Image Link)

Cosplay has always been a big part of NYCC, and many cosplayers and fans consider NYCC the place to go if you want to see the very best cosplay creations.

Two themes seem to have dominated the floor this year- gender swap and mashup, both of which were handled in a very serious manner, of course.

(Image Link)

Dorkly put together a collection of the 50 Best Cosplays seen at New York Comic Con 2014, and when they say the best they really mean it!

Every costume in the bunch is a winner, and there's enough variety to keep even the most cynical cosplay connoisseur entertained through the entire fifty photo set.

A Collection Of Weird Store Bought Halloween Costumes

The sexy and the strange- for better or worse these two Halloween costume categories come back every year to make us cringe and giggle (cringle?).

Whether you’re doing the Wolfman Boogie at a friend’s party, or pounding the pavement in search of free sugary treats, you’re bound to see some strange and sexy costumes out and about on Halloween.

Sexy costumes aren’t all that interesting, but weird costumes are always fun to look at, and every year a Halloween loving populace is exposed to a new batch of oddball costumes that amaze and delight.

There’s always at least one costume in the bunch that makes you wonder what the heck they were smoking thinking when they came up with such a strange concept, like this creepy Cheeseburger Mask:

Some costumes seem like a bad joke being played on the public, as if the costume companies are trying to make Halloweenies look like total, well, weenies!

Huffington Post put together a collection of weird Halloween costumes and products that should show you what to expect out there come Halloween night.  And if you're looking to see sexy costumes with the strange check out io9's post on the weirdest and sexiest costumes of 2014

Words Of Wisdom From Hunter S. Thompson's Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Most people (some of his fans included) think of Hunter S. Thompson as a madman, a drug addict, and a man who lived on the edge his entire life, and they're right.

But as much as these were part of his persona they shouldn’t overshadow the fact that Hunter was, first and foremost, a damn good writer.

The man could paint a scene of depravity, or debauchery, or democratic process gone awry, like he was both a participant and an omniscient narrator watching from above, and this duality let him shape the reality of situations as he saw fit.

(Image Link)

His unique perspective on life allowed him to make observations which were mistakenly seen as nonsense, words strung together because they sound good, but between the lines faithful readers could find actual words of wisdom.

From simple platitudes like "no sympathy for the devil" to deeper philosophical statements like "In a closed society where everybody's guilty, the only crime is getting caught", there's no denying Hunter had some mighty sane things to say about this mad world we live in.

The FrankenBerry Monster - He's Tasty And He Knows It

The FrankenBerry Monster by Captain RibMan

Doctor Frankenstein had grown tired of digging up corpses and dealing with brainless monsters, he was looking to create a creature with a knack for comedic timing and a style all its own. Being a big fan of breakfast cereals he naturally looked to their mascots for inspiration, and since tigers were too dangerous and toucans too obnoxious he settled on a familiar face known as FrankenBerry. He made a giant plaster mold out of a previously scrapped monster, added the necessary berry flavoring to his golem gel, and created a new kind of monster...

Bring some monstrously cool flavor to your geeky wardrobe with this The FrankenBerry Monster t-shirt by Captain RibMan, it's chock full o' fun!

Let This Fleshy Blob Thing Serenade You With A Sinatra Song

When a large, floating blob of flesh with no facial features save a mouth starts singing Frank Sinatra’s classic song “The Lady Is A Tramp” there are two possibilities- you’re either dreaming, or you're watching some weird video on the interwebs.

(Vimeo Link)

This oddball video is a screen test created by Barcelona-based animation studio Dvein, and leads me to believe that whatever they’re creating might actually turn out to be stranger than this video.

Is this blob what Cassandra from Doctor Who looked like before she had herself stretched out on a rack? Is it the source of all the Adipose creatures in the universe?

Here’s another equally strange video starring the floating mouth blob’s relatives, watch it while you mull over these Whovian parallels:

(Vimeo Link)

I’ve always heard breathing is a big part of singing, but I guess when your mouth takes up about a third of your entire body you don't need a nose to belt out a tune with the best of 'em!

Deadbeat And Dreary Visualizations Of Springfield

The Simpsons home town of Springfield only looks fun and colorful on TV because it's animated, if it was a real town it wouldn't be such a bright and cheerful place.

Illustrator Tim Doyle understands the harsh realities of real life, and how those realities differ from the colorful cheeriness found in toon life, so when he set his eyes on Springfield he saw despair and darkness sulking around every corner.

Tim’s artistic vision of Springfield makes the town look more relatable, and seedier than it has ever been portayed on the show, although the production staff has worked hard to make the place smuttier over the years.

We first featured Tim’s UnReal Estate portraits of Springfield back in 2012, and since then he’s been busy bringing more locations from that gritty toon town to life, revealing more of what lies beneath Springfield's cute cartoon facade.

See the rest of Tim's moody Springfield illustrations here
