2015 was truly a historic year for the motion picture industry, even though the most anticipated and highest grossing movie of the year didn't come out until the middle of December.

We watched Joseph-Gordon Levitt defy death in The Walk, our favorite wastelander Mad Max made it back to the big screen in Fury Road, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens brought a whole new generation of fans along for the ride.

But the surprisingly great films of 2015 award goes to the underdogs overlooked in the sea of smash hits. Indie films like Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Brooklyn struck an emotional chord, while horrifyingly fun films Bone Tomahawk and Krampus delivered the ground meat without all the cheese.

Joey Paur of GeekTyrant put together a list of his favorite films of 2015, including a trailer and review for each movie, and aside from one film I found relative-ly weak I think he's right on the money with the rest of his picks.

A lot of great video games came out in 2015, including the triumphant return of beloved franchises like Fallout, The Witcher and Persona, new classics like Dying Light and Bloodborne, and the messy multiplayer mayhem of Splatoon.

But in among the gems there are bound to be some poop nuggets painted gold, and one game was so universally loathed the makers stopped selling it and offered everyone who'd already bought it a full refund- Afro Samurai 2: Revenge Of Kuma.

Otherwise great games like Batman: Arkham Knight made the list simply because the PC version was pure guano, and people were mighty peeved by Nintendo's money making racket known as Amiibo.

Hopefully all the makers and builders out there had plenty of projects to work on in 2015, but if you've run out of stuff to build you should peruse The Top Ten Make: Posts Of 2015 for some inspiration.

There you'll find tutorials on how to make some spectacular stuff, including a stunning(ly simple) way to encase a dandelion in clear resin and plans to build your own Odaiko drum, which can normally cost up to $25k.

But the top post of the year was a super sneaky roundup of tutorials revealing how to build 20 Secret Doors And Clever Hiding Places, which may have led to some irreparable structural damage and tears shed in frustration. Sorry about the new "window", Mr. Landlord sir!
