Halloween Bearding Done Right - Female Edition

Women should definitely consider incorporating a beard into their Halloween costume as long as you go about it the right way, so you don't end up looking like someone who glued trimmed hairs onto their face!

This gal looks amazing in her beard, because she applied her beard the hard way, one clump at a time, and paid attention to details so the whole thing looks uniform and realistic. Any sideshows missing a bearded lady? I think I just found her....

The bearded lady in this picture has taken the beard a bit too far, so she has a young Santa thing going on. It helps sell the realism if people can see your mouth, although she did a good job of matching the beard with the wig!

Female bearding- she's doing it all wrong! I'm sure she meant for her beard to look gross, but the whole thing looks very thrown together- the beard color doesn't match her hair, and you should always go for long, straight hairs and avoid using short and curly ones for obvious reasons...

Parents are encouraged to put a beard on their little girl because, let's face it, kids in beards are adorably awesome.

Just make sure you don't go gluing anything to their face, and use a material that's not going to irritate their skin or you might end up with an unhappy trick-or-treater and a serious rash!

Sad Portraits Of Celebrity Impersonators

What is it about this portrait series by photographer Nicolas Silberfaden that makes them so touching?

Maybe it's because we only see impersonators when they're in character, and these photos show them as the vulnerable human beings they are beneath the costume.

Perhaps we actually expect them to act like the characters they're portraying at all times, even though we know they're all dressed up and playing a role.

Whatever it is that makes them so touching also makes me want to hunt down whoever made Superman cry and bop 'em in the nose!

Pop Art Tribute To Monet Made From Plastic Balls

What better place to set up an art installation paying tribute to Claude Monet than the beautiful town of Le Havre, where the forefather of impressionism spent his childhood?

The installation is called Pergola, and it's made from 90,000 plastic balls which are arranged over the grand pergola leading up to Le Havre's City Hall.

Here's more on this optical delight:

90,000 plastic balls are arranged into an image of the wisteria blooms that figure in many of the artist’s oeuvres. The balls come in five tones – an abstracted impressionist palette – and climb towards the abundant sunlight, creating an exuberant play of color, light and shadows underneath. As with many of the projects by Claude Cormier + Associés Inc., the deliberate insertion of the artificial shakes up preconceived ideas – but the installation also aims, more simply, to delight visitors.

Deadpool Versus Gangnam Style

(YouTube Link)

Don't bring Marvel's wackiest assassin Deadpool to the Gangnam Style party unless you want things to go b-a-n-a-n-a-s!

Check out Deadpool's trip around town, as he dances his spandex-clad butt off, parodies the original Gangnam Style video by Psy and entertains the interwebs at the same time.

It's a good thing Deadpool doesn't die, because his superheroic brand of comedy makes life worth living. Is that an overstatement, or what?! *grin*

Retro Halloween - Disgusting Disguises By Topps

The Topps card company, makers of fine baseball cards and collectible card series such as the Garbage Pail Kids, released a Halloween themed series wax pack in 1967 called Disgusting Disguises.

Each pack came with 24 gruesome cut outs (masks and accessories) and some skin stickers, so kids wouldn't have to go trick-or-treating without a costume.

While these paper disguises may not have been the best choice of costume, they made for a fun kids collectible and now they're a unique retro artifact!

Shelby - The Pug Who Dressed Up Like Teen Wolf For Halloween

Shelby the pug decided to channel her inner wolf for Halloween, so she dressed up as Teen Wolf and howled at the moon!

Proud owner Winnie Wong was sad to report that Shelby didn't lead the Beavers basketball team to victory against the Dragons, but she did manage to bite a few ankles and live like a real wild child for a night.

Doggie Dreams...Shelby haz dem!

Muppets Infected With The Zombie Virus

It's with a deep sense of sadness that I must report the untimely death, and zombified rebirth, of our beloved Muppets.

Turns out fleece puppets aren't immune to the zombie virus after all, and their thirst for human blood is insatiable because they don't have any guts!

Illustrator John Defreest has given us a glimpse of the undead Muppets, and the Muppet Show will never be the same again...*sigh*

Have A Sexy Little Halloween

Many gals choose to play it safe and wear a sexy costume on Halloween, but you can only wear a sexy nurse or sexy cop or sexy cheerleader costume so many times before it begins defining who you are.

Now, thanks to illustrator Jillian Tamaki, you have more sexy costumes to choose from, like the always popular sexy Hungry- Man dinner or the intellectually sexy first edition of The Old Man And The Sea.

Keep it fresh this year, and leave the same old sexy costume gathering dust in the back of your closet!

Halloween Bearding Done Right - Male Edition

A beard is often used with Halloween costumes as a whimsical accessory, or to help complete the character costume you've decided to sport.

But if you're going to use a beard with your costume make sure you're doing it right, or else you may end up looking like some weirdo who glued a wad of hair to his face!

Photo: luf sugarskull/Flickr

Check out the guy in pic 1- he's grown a natural beard out to complement his bearded lady costume. Not a bad move, but you may be growing that sucker out for months and it will itch like mad!

Photo: Kim Scarborough/Flickr

Pic 2 has the same costume idea going on, but he's using a fake beard which is easy to remove when you get hot under the collar. As long as it stays on all night you've completed your costume and you can stay clean shaven. Yay facial comfort!

Photo: zoomar/Flickr

The guy in pic 3 has created a crazy custom monkey beard, which is almost a costume in itself and is sure to make you a hit at any Halloween function. Oh monkey beard, you complete me...

Wine Cork Portraits By Scott Gundersen

Somebody must have told Scott Gundersen to put a cork in it when he started his artistic career because he's been working almost exclusively in corks ever since.

Scott creates giant sized mosaic portraits from photo reference, and his works have a surprising amount of detail for such a minimal color palette.

Each piece takes thousands of corks to complete, and some measure in at an amazing ten feet tall.

It's doubtful Scott could drink enough wine in a lifetime to supply enough corks for his art, so he must go around town shaking down every wino he sees!

How To Make A Frighfully Cute Pumpkin Mouse Hotel

If you're tired of the same old carved pumpkin looks, or you'd like to add a touch of whimsy to your Halloween decorations then check out this Mouse Motel tutorial and let the rodent inspired fun begin!

And if mice aren't to your liking you can easily use something more sinister, like snakes or mini monsters, or add some grisly pasta guts and gross out the neighborhood.

It's an easy and fun way to give your jack-o-lantern that lived in look, instead of the same old carved face.
