Amazing Animal Street Art Sculptures Made Out Of Found Trash

Humans create massive mountains of waste that often end up adversely affecting wildlife populations in one way or another, and much of the waste we create doesn't biodegrade fast enough for us to catch up.

This leaves generation after generation picking up after their ancestors, and despite the time and energy we spend trying to find a solution waste is so piled up we may never get rid of it all.

So how can we save wildlife and ourselves from being buried under a mountain of trash?

Portuguese street artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro, aka Bordalo II, repurposes found trash by turning it into amazing sculptural artwork, using the trash texture under layers of paint to give his pieces that 3D pop.

Bordalo II on his series Big Trash Animals:

Trash Animals is a series of artworks that aims to draw attention to a current problem that is likely to be forgotten, become trivial or a necessary evil. The problem involves waste production, materials that are not reused, pollution and its effect on the planet.

Damaged bumpers, burnt garbage cans, tires and appliances are just some of the objects that can be identified when you go into detail. They are camouflaging the result of our habits with little ecological and social awareness.

Keep Calm And Ski On, But Beware Of Avalanches

(Image Link)

Ski season is upon us, and that means it's the best time to hit the slopes and carve some fresh powder at cool places across the U.S. like Park City, Vail and Sugarloaf, just to name a few.

But if you should find yourself ditching the lifts to ski in the back country remember- avalanches are a real threat, so do your homework so you can live to ski another season.

The skier in this video posted by KGW News discovered how easy it is to start an avalanche while skiing, luckily nobody was on the slopes below him.

(YouTube Link)

But more often than not skiers get swallowed up by the snow when they cause an avalanche,  which looks pretty cool through the lens of a GoPro camera but scares the crap out of the skier sporting the GoPro.

If you ever find yourself being swept off your feet by an avalanche try to keep a cool head, and if you're lucky you may be able to outrun the avalanche, like pro skier Nick McNutt does in this jaw dropping video.

The Guy Who Voices Mario Gives A Super Strange Interview

Fans will forever think of Nintendo's Mario with the voice of veteran voice actor Charles Martinet, because most of us can't think of Mario without hearing that "It's-a Me, Mario!" catchphrase in our heads.

But Nintendo really should've had Charles be the voice of Donkey Kong more than once- because the guy's a bit bananas!

Great Big Story sat down with the voice of Mario (and Luigi too!) to discuss how he became the voice of Mario, his storied acting career and the 26 wonderful years he has spent with Nintendo.

Innocent Things That Were Demonized During The Satanic Panic

(Image Link)

Overzealous religious fanatics tried to turn the Satanic Panic into a new McCarthyism for the 80s, but they failed because anybody with a brain could see that Pampers, the Smurfs and Mr. Ed were not a threat to their immortal soul.

But in 1986 evangelists Greg Hudson and Jim Brown presented their evidence anyway, claiming Mr. Ed had been corrupting innocent souls for the Lord of Darkness by using its theme song as a subliminal tool for recruitment.

They claimed that when you played the theme song backwards it sounded like the singer was saying "The Source is Satan" and "Someone heard this song for Satan".

(YouTube Link)

As if that bit of jackassery wasn't enough- Proctor & Gamble got caught up in the Satanic Panic when it was decided their beautiful logo, which dated back to 1882, featured Satanic symbols.

(Image Link)

P&G had to hold a press conference to deny claims they were donating to a Satanic Church and set up a toll free phone line to assure people there was nothing Satanic about their logo.

In the end they removed their awesome Art Nouveau logo to avoid further problems with the Panic crowd.

Next stop- those totally sinister Smurfs cartoons!

(Image Link)

Cartoon obsessed crackpot Phil Phillips joined pastor Gary Greenwald to battle those treacherous toons on Turmoil in the Toybox, claiming the Smurfs, with Thundercats, He-Man and Rainbow Brite were a gateway to corruption aimed at children.

(YouTube Link)

The Smurfs were said to be a depiction of dead homosexuals, the Thundercats and He-Man were inspired by "heathen gods", and Rainbow Brite has a pentagram on her cheek- the mark of pure evil.

Actors You May Have Forgotten Were On Star Trek

Star Trek TV shows such as Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation, Voyager and Enterprise have played host to so many guest stars over the years it's hard to keep track of them all.

And casual viewers may not recognize stars like Jason Alexander, Iggy Pop and Jonathan Banks under all that makeup.

Of course, Dwayne The Rock Johnson is recognizable no matter what he's wearing, and he appeared on Voyager in the late 90s, at the height of his WWE wrestling career.

He played a Tsunkatse fighter who puts a hurtin' on Seven of Nine, and even uses Rock's finishing move, The Rock Bottom, to take down the reformed Borg drone.

Landing a guest starring role on Star Trek is a dream come true for an actor who's also a Trekkie (Trekker?), so when Jason Alexander was offered the role of Kurros on Voyager he had to .

Jason sites Shatner's performance as Captain Kirk as his inspiration to pursue acting so being on Star Trek was at the top of Jason's acting wish list, but he wanted to hold out for a role as an alien:

As he explained to StarTrek.com in a 2011 interview, “It was finally Voyager that understood that and called with the perfect part.” He was thrilled with Kurros explaining that “They gave me everything — an alien guise, great intellect, and evil. The trifecta. What more could you ask for?”

It's unclear whether Jonathan Banks shared Jason's enthusiasm for wearing alien makeup, but he definitely threw himself into the role of Ennis leader Golin Shel-la on Deep Space Nine.

Jonathan brought that brooding badass energy we've come to expect from him to the role of Golin, and you can almost see the beginnings of Mike from Breaking Bad in his portrayal.

So what kind of energy did Iggy Pop bring to his portrayal of Vorta clone Yelgrun on Deep Space Nine? Man, Iggy plays Iggy no matter what!

Owner Discovers Heartwarming Note Attached To Her Cat's Collar

Pet cats who are allowed to go outside often become acquainted with their human neighbors as they survey their kingdom, hanging out at various pads and scoring free food and pettings.

These cats usually wear a collar while they're outside, showing the neighbors that the cat they're feeding and petting has an owner nearby, but the collar can also act as a way for neighbors to communicate.

Imgur user SliceofToast discovered a strange note attached to her cat Nala's collar after Nala had come in from her daily patrol of the neighborhood.

The note said "Please Read", so SliceofToast opened it up and discovered the note wasn't so strange after all, just a pleasant sign of affection for a furry frequent visitor.

She must live in a nice neighborhood, because my neighbors were always trying to either steal my cats or run them over!

These Wolverine Knockoffs Are The Second Best There Is At What They Do

Wolverine is (arguably) the most successful knockoff character of all time, largely because the fine folks at Marvel worked hard to set their character apart from Lone Wolf/Timber Wolf, the DC character that inspired Wolvie.

However, the company's overuse of the character in the 80s and 90s led to an overabundance of knockoff characters created for storylines involving Wolverine, such as Shiv, Wild Child, Daken, Romulus and Wild Thing.

Since Wild Thing and Daken are technically Wolvie's kids they don't really count as knockoffs, but Shiv is the spitting image of Logan without the mask and has one claw on each hand instead of three.

But any savage comic character can be considered akin to Wolverine, so the feral characters Wild Child and Romulus, and the Liefeld character Feral for that matter, share that connection to him.

In fact, both Wild Child and Romulus are said to have a genetic connection to wolves, which conveniently brings us back to Timber Wolf...

Will Giraffe Milk Become The Latest Fad Superfood?

(Image Link)

It seems like a new superfood is announced every other week, and that word "superfood" rolls off the tongue so smoothly people can't wait to share what they've read about the latest "superfood".

Say it a few times to yourself, see how fun it is to say because it makes your mouth form the "ooo" shape? You know who else has lips that can easily form the "ooo" shape?

(Image Link)

The tall and lanky giraffe, that's who, and while they're pretty super as far as animals go they're not considered a superfood, not even by the lions and hyenas who occasionally dine on them.

On the other hand, their milk may be sold as a superfood in the future because, according to this zoological report from 1962, it's better for us than cow's milk:

The report revealed that giraffe milk has a high fat content – 12.5%, to be precise. That compares with 3.5% in full fat cow’s milk (semi-skimmed has 1.5% – 1.8%, skimmed milk has less than 0.3% fat content).

In addition, giraffe milk contains similar amounts of riboflavin, thiamine and vitamin B6 to cow’s milk, but it has higher levels of vitamins B12 and A.

It's unlikely giraffe milk will make it into your local supermarket's dairy aisle anytime soon, even if only because giraffes won't just stand around and let humans milk them like cows.

(YouTube Link)

But it is interesting to think about the odd food products that'll become normalized in the future, and how food fads drive people to eat the strangest stuff!

This 9-Year-Old Boxer Chops Trees With Her Fists

Many adults put on a show and act real tough when they're out in public, using their macho attitude as a way to hide their social anxiety, but if a young kid was born tough they don't have to act- they just show off their skills.

This is Evnika Saadvakass from Voronezh, Russia, and she is one of the toughest nine-year-olds on the planet. But Evnika doesn't have to act tough or talk tough, because she lets her lightning fast fists do all the talking for her.

Evnika has been training with her boxer father Rustram since she was three, and judging by her tree punching skills she'll be ready to become a pro fighter by the time she's in middle school!

Make Yourself Look Cuter Than You Really Are With Meitu

Apps like Snapchat and Instagram do all kinds of funny things with people's faces when their filters are applied to a photo, but most of these filters are silly and don't improve the look of the person in the photo.

But now there's Meitu, an app with filters that are both silly and enhance a person's looks- by making them look extremely cute!

Meitu is an anime beauty app that puts a sparkle in your big, beautiful eyes, adds a glow to your eerily smooth skin, and makes your rosy lips look perfectly pouty.

What's that you say? These words don't describe your face at all? They will when Meitu is finished with you!

Recently there has been talk about Meitu collecting user data and selling it, but the company behind the app told CNET why Meitu asks for so many seemingly unneeded permissions upon download:

Meitu told CNET in a statement that the data collection code was included because the company is headquartered in China, where tracking services provided by app stores such as the Apple App Store and Google Play are blocked.

"To get around this, Meitu employs a combination of third-party and in-house data tracking systems to make sure the user data tracked is consistent," said a Meitu spokesperson.

Sounds legit to me, and what's a little third-party data collection when you're left looking this fabulous, amirite? *wink*

Raccoon And Her Newborn Cubs Accidentally Hitch A Ride Across The USA

Wild animals who are about to give birth try to find a safe and secure place to deliver their offspring, where neither humans nor other critters can harm them while they're at their most vulnerable.

But sometimes that search for safety lands them in a heap of trouble, or transports them to a faraway place.

(Image Link)

A raccoon mom desperate to find a safe place to deliver her cubs smuggled herself on board a moving truck which had recently been burglarized and proceeded to give birth.

Unfortunately, the guy driving the truck was moving from Fort Myers, Florida to Marin County, California, so she and her cubs were stuck in the back of the truck for eleven days without food or water.

When the driver discovered those cute little stowaways they were near death, so he turned them over to the wildlife hospital WildCare for treatment.

WildCare was able to nurse the raccoon family back to health, and the Oakland Zoo was willing to take them in and give them a new home.
