Times Square Mascots Are Degenerates

New York's Times Square is a street performing mascot mecca that, not surprisingly, attracts some sickos alongside the well-meaning.

Costumed characters in Times Square are getting handsy, racist  violent and downright dirty, and one man (who dresses like a giant white robot) has had enough.

He's reported that nearly every mascot he's met in the four years he's been working Times Square has been a "degenerate alcoholic crackhead", and he thinks the city should be unmasking these oddballs and handing them their walking papers.

But what of the children that expect to see a drunken Smurf stumbling around when they visit NYC?

A Pet Fox Plays Fetch

What's cooler than having a fox for a pet? Having a pet fox that plays fetch, of course! Just don't throw the ball too close to the chicken coop, or poultry-geddon may ensue...

A Real Life Pokeball With A Furry Surprise Inside

I would totally buy into the whole "Gotta Catch Em All!" thing if every Pokeball contained a critter as cute as this fuzzy little kitten. The only problem would be sending something so adorable into battle, because I couldn't live with myself if he ever got hurt!

Therapy Llamas Bring Fuzzy Love To Nursing Home Patients

We've all heard of therapy dogs and therapy cats, but a therapy llama is something we've never seen before. Who wouldn't want these long necked fuzzlers to give you wet kisses and a little spit in your eye when they're feeling ornery?

They didn't just wander in from the wild:

The nursing home patients at Washington’s Bellingham Health and Rehabilitation Center are visited every few months by two llamas, Marisco and N.H. Flight of the Eagle, who are registered therapists.

Head to the link below if you want to watch a video showing these licensed llamas at work, it's all about the llama love!

There's Something Strange About These Cops

Cops used to be content with sporting normal sized legs, but these days they need all the height they can get to see crimes happening across town.

But can they actually run with those ridiculously long legs? Maybe the whole thing is just one big acid flashback triggered by watching Yellow Submarine too many times...

Creepy Legend Of Zelda Dead Hand Snowman

Video game themed snowmen don't come much more obscure, or creepy looking, than this thing.

It's based on the Dead Hand mini boss from the Legend of Zelda game The Ocarina of Time, and somehow he looks better when constructed out of hi-rez snow particles. Remember when video game graphics were that bad?

The Most Amazing Acts Of Cosplay From 2012

Cosplayers really stepped up their game in 2012, and showed us lots of great examples of why they take pride in their costume arts.

Maybe the threat of a Mayan apocalypse filled them with a sense of urgency, or maybe they've been saving up all their top looks for this year, but whatever the reason here's hoping we see lots more amazing costumes in 2013!

Santa Left A Strange Looking Present Under The Tree

Babies are too young to truly appreciate the presents waiting for them under the tree on Christmas morning, but when your gift is a horse headed dog (pony?) you can't help but develop a few mental scars that'll stick with you for the rest of your life!

I wonder how many treats it took to convince the dog to wear the horse head mask?

Kid Plays The Washing Machine Like A Drum

(YouTube Link)

The young man in this video must spend a lot of time doing the laundry, either that or his bongos are in the repair shop.

He drums out a beat on the washing machine like a total boss, while his parents film the whole thing so they don't have to do the laundry. Win-win!

Trained Mice Performing Amazing Tricks

We all know mice are clever enough to sneak their way into our houses and eat our food, but their ability to learn tricks is totally underrated.

Mouse Agility knows what mice are truly capable of, and they've been training mice to do things like pay for a treat, play Connect Four or slam dunk a tiny basketball since the 90s.

If mice paid for all the food they took people probably wouldn't hate having them in their homes.

Amazingly Detailed Eggshell Sculptures

Chinese artist Wen Fuliang doesn't see eggshells as trash, he sees them as a sculptural medium. His incredible sculpting skills began when he was laid off from his job as a woodcarver, and now he sees eggs as more than just an ingredient in Fu Yung.

Here's more on these delicate works of art:

Using chicken, goose and duck eggs, he empties the content of the eggs with a syringe, before using a fine diamond bit on an electric rotary tool to delicately carve the designs on the intricate shells.

The process, according to The Daily Mail, is “incredibly time-consuming”, and requires Fuliang to gently secure the eggshell in one hand, and skillfully use the rotary tool in the other.

Luminous Cyberpunk Costume

Cutting through the competition and lighting up the night has never looked so good! Costumer Melissa Li created two awe inspiring cyberpunk costumes which took years to develop and months to construct.

Here's a bit on the top look, called 2.0:

The assembly is made from over 60 parts designed in Solidworks and sewn/cut/glued/laser-cut/heat-formed using various techniques.

The costume includes color changing LEDs on the spine and front that are controlled by an Arduino microcontroller and onboard RGB controllers (respectively), and is powered by 16 AA batteries, 1 LiPo rechargeable battery, two 2032 coin cells, and one 9-volt battery. In total there's more than 70 LED's on the entire costume and over 60 parts.

And here's a bit on the bottom look, the original 1.0:

Design was based on actual spinal transverse sections and lit with ~40 LED's. Design and assembly of smaller accessory pieces for shoulders, chest, and arm were found pieces or designed in Solidworks. In total, ~46 pieces put together over a period of ~2 months.
