Computer Generated Images Of Animals In The Womb

Before the advancement of computer generated imaging, three dimensional ultrasound technology and the ability to use those enhancements in the medical field, seeing images of animals in the womb seemed impossible without the use of invasive cameras and surgery.

While we still aren't able to capture images quite as colorful and detailed as these computer generated images created by Peter Chinn, who used "a combination of dimensional ultrasound scans, tiny cameras and computer graphics to create these truly astonishing embryonic images", the images featured in a National Geographic Channel special we covered nearly six years ago here on Neatorama give us a good idea of what future 3D ultrasound images might look like. And for the first time you can see all twelve embryonic animal snapsots, from the adorable elephant to the long-necked horse.

The Living Clay Art Of Johnson Stang

Johnson Stang has the alchemist’s gift of making solid materials, in this case ceramic clay, bend to his will and take on the characteristics of a fluid without sacrificing solidity, while beautifully replicating humanistic forms in a splash of sculptural liquid.

His latest series is called Living Clay, and it combines ceramic crockery with sculptural element to create the fluid illusion, capturing the look of liquids mid-pour with realistic human faces emerging from the drink.

The sculptural forms flow in such an organic way it's hard to believe they're made of clay and not splashing liquids, and Johnson seamlessly integrates human forms into each piece in a way which makes them feel like they've always been there just waiting to rise up out of the water.

Papercraft modelers who work in offices have discovered a nearly unlimited resource sitting in the file cabinetsall around them- manila folders. The Long Lost Photos From Gordon Parks' Segregation Series

Gordon Parks is best known for his portraits of Civil Rights Movement leaders such as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, and for documenting the plight of Black Americans during the 1950s and 60s for Life Magazine, but did you know he also directed the hit film Shaft?

He was a man of many talents, and in 1956 Gordon was sent on assignment by Life Magazine to document the daily life of a southern Black family for an article titled “The Restraints: Open and Hidden”.

Gordon’s pictures really hit home with readers across the nation, but many of the shots taken during that assignment didn’t make it into the magazine layout, and the unused extras were thought to be lost until 2012 when someone from the Gordon Parks Foundation discovered 70 more full color photos in some old storage boxes.

This MLK Day we celebrate the second anniversary of the discovery of the long lost Segregation series photographs by remembering the guy behind the camera, and one extremely iconic Black American, Gordon Parks.

Hanging Light That Makes Your Room Feel Like A Spooky Forest

(Video Link)

Home décor inspired by shapes found in nature tends to look pretty cool, but when home décor looks naturalistic and brings the feel of the outdoors inside, where it's warm and dry, it lends a magical air to an otherwise boring space and shows the world how outdoorsy you are without sacrificing the comforts of home.

Take this amazing light sculpture work by Hilden Diaz- it looks like a mass of branches or roots, which is cool in itself, but when a light is placed in the center of the sphere it casts root shaped shadowforms upon the walls, giving any room the feel of a spooky forest or briar patch.

Blood Drenched Game Of Thrones Red Wedding Cake

The Red Wedding scene in George R. R. Martin’s television series Game of Thrones forever changed the way geeks think about their weddings, and some sickos out there probably found the scene inspirational for their own wedding theme.

Those who delighted in the Red Wedding slaughter will love this Red Wedding Cake, which features oodles of oozing blood beneath a miniature Iron Throne placed atop the cake to remind the guests who is in charge. It's fancy, in a blood drenched kind of way, and the only thing that could make this cake better is a bit of strawberry filling inside so it bleeds when you slice it open.

If you see a cake like this at any weddings you attend do yourself a favor and get the heck out of there, before the bolts start flying and guests start dropping like flies!

Strange Psychoanalysis Comic Books From The 1950s

When comics are selling like newsprint hotcakes publishers are constantly on the lookout for something or someone else to make a comic book about, and in the 1950s there was even a comic book series based on psychoanalysis. It was meant to steer the Comics Code Authority away from the more violent titles released by E.C. Comics, as part of their educational New Direction series.

Watch as super powered shrinks use Freudian techniques to steer their patients toward sanity, behold as they ask each patient to talk about their mother, and marvel at the mundane nature of this supposedly educational title created by the same company that made Tales From The Crypt and The Vault of Horror!

An Old Silo Transformed Into A Modern Lighthouse

The Lighthouse Design Collective in Finland gave an old steel oil silo a second life by turning it into a fully functioning modern lighthouse and urban light art space for visitors to enjoy.

The walls of the repurposed oil silo, dubbed Silo 468, are covered in over 2,000 perforated holes housing LED lights that illuminate the coastline outside, and put on an incredibly beautiful light show for visitors inside.

The interior space looks like it would make the ultimate skating rink, with walls painted red and lights playing off every surface, and outside the computerized lighting setup does something pretty darn neat:

At night 1250 white LED’s flicker and sway on the surface of the silo controlled by a bespoke software mimicking swarms of birds in flight – a reference to silo´s seaside location. The prevailing winds, well-known to those living in Helsinki, are used to trigger different light patterns in real time.

Surreal Animated Short - Waiter

(Video Link)

Here’s an animated short that may be the strangest short you’ve ever seen, or at least until the next time someone posts something utterly bizarre that they found online.

The short is called Waiter, and it was created by Ryoji Yamada, a Japanese animator who is clearly way too familiar with psychotropic substances. Waiter centers around an overworked waiter who delivers drinks to customers with flower heads, tube heads and one sporting a stack of three heads up top, and when the waiter decides to take a drink at work the whole thing becomes even stranger than before.

If you enjoy surreal animation, or have ever felt like you were losing your mind due to being overworked, then you'll definitely enjoy this odd little gem of a short.

Spectacular Venture Bros. Doc-Dusa Stop Motion Puppet

The Venture Bros. is one heck of an Adult Swim cartoon show, and fans can't get enough of the animated adventures experienced by Team Venture as they go through life being a super scientific dysfunctional family.

A recently aired episode entitled "Spanakopita" featured a stop motion segment created by the team responsible for the animated action figure antics of Robot Chicken- Stoopid Buddy Studios.

Lead fabricator Lauren Leigh created this amazing Doctor Venture Medusa Head for the Greek mythology themed dream segment, and it's such an incredible work of animation art that we felt like it was worthy of kudos and tons of shares. Spanikopita Lauren!

Dreamlike Photos Of Life On A Russian Farm

Idyllic scenes abound in this series of photographs by Elena Shumilova, which consists of portraits of her two boys Yaroslav and Vanya, and the animals they love on their family farm in Russia.

Elena took up photography in 2012 in order to document her boys as they were growing up, and the amazingly close relationship they have with the animals on the farm. The warmth of the natural lighting and the wonderfully lush environment that surrounds them makes each pic feel like a private glimpse into the moment a mystical bond is formed between child and critter.

Elena obviously puts a lot of love into her works, and it will be a delight to see which captured moments of her rustic life she chooses to share with the world through her photography in the coming years.

If you can't afford this blast from the past, or no longer have a Super Nintendo console, then you should fire up your SNES emulator and seek out the ROM version of the game, so you can see what you've been missing for the last twenty years.

Spirited Away Sets Re-Created In Minecraft

(Video Link)

Hayao Miyazaki has become a household name because his animated features are some of the best in the biz, and fans particularly enjoyed Spirited Away, the story of a young girl who encounters mythological creatures and spirits out of Japanese folklore as she tries to find a way to save her family.

One such fan is animator Alan Becker, who is showing his love of Miyazaki by re-creating the world of Spirited Away in Minecraft. His designs are spot on and just as colorful as the originals, and even though he claims to be only 80% done with his virtual sets they already look 100% awesome!

Laser Cut Book Pages Tell A Story With Images Instead Of Words

When you open a book made by Japanese artist Yusuke Oono you won’t find chapters, or titles or words of any kind. The only words to read on these books are the titles emblazoned across their bright covers, with names like In A Cheese and Jungle Book, titles that give you a clue about what you’ll find between two colorful covers.

So what do you find inside these colorful books if not words divided into paragraphs and chapters? Magic, that’s what, a bunch of laser cut pages depicting whimsical scenes that make the inside of these books look like a magical place for your imagination to visit.
