Nearly One Hundred Years Of Olympic Logos

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia have been fraught with technical difficulties, housing problems and an overall feeling that Sochi was not prepared to host the Olympic Games despite their prideful claims.

But one thing that never seems to go wrong is the creation of the Olympic logo, which has gone from illustrative black ink lines in a classical style to bubbly, colorful and full of character over the last ninety years.

Here’s a look back at the evolution of Olympic logos, and how the logo has evolved over the years, starting with the 1924 games in Paris, France and ending four years from now with the logo for the 2018 games logo in Pyeongchang County, South Korea. Because nothing captures the pure elegance of the Olympic Games quite like the logo.

Mark Hamill Outtake Photo Becomes Subject Of Reddit Photoshop Battle

Take a silly candid behind-the-scenes shot from the set of a beloved movie and post it online and you’re bound to get lots of likes, but if it’s a photo of Mark Hamill making a goofy face while dressed like Luke Skywalker on the set of Star Wars, and that picture is posted to Reddit with an accompanying Photoshop challenge then you’re bound to get lots of hilarious submissions!

Derpy Luke Skywalker can be seen swimming with the dolphins, using the Force to create rainbows from the palms of his hands, and generally act in a manner considered quite unbecoming by the noble Jedi Council.

Famous Pop Culture Icons Re-Imagined As Cats

Kittehs rule the interwebz, and they spend all day licking themselves so they’re always camera ready. But what happens when the kitteh in question refuses to wear a Darth Vader outfit, or an Elvis wig and sunglasses, when asked to portray a pop icon?

Shanghai based artist A Ke has found the solution- draw a pretty picture of the kitteh, realistic enough to make the kitteh in question recognizable yet fanciful enough to appeal to afficionados of cat based artworks.

A Ke shows us what our favorite pop culture icons would look like as a cat, and the future of cat themed memes has never looked so illustrious, or so finely illustrated.

Wild Trees Grow Up The Side Of High-Rises In Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s greenery doesn’t feel the need to stay confined to the undeveloped areas on the outskirts of the city, the plants there are ready to move in to a penthouse apartment of their own.

These highly adaptive trees have begun to grow on the sides of high-rise buildings all over Hong Kong, hanging on to the sides of concrete buildings by their roots. This incredible phenomenon, nature surviving despite human development, has been documented by photographer Romain Jacquet-Lagreze in a series called Wild Concrete.

It’s fascinating to see the roots trail up the side of a massive high-rise, imagining the tree climbing its way up the building year after year until it reaches the rooftop and achieves maximum sun exposure.

A DIY Clock That Writes Out The Time

(Video Link)

Sitting around watching the clock tick off the seconds, and minutes, and hours of your life is enough to drive anyone crazy, but a clock that writes out the time minute by minute is simply mesmerizing, and adorable in a robot with OCD kinda way.

This cute little timekeeping robot is called Plotclock, and it’s a DIY clock/trance inducer that writes out and erases the time minute by minute on a mini dry erase board.

Creator Johannes made this little mechanical robo-clock with accessibility to all in mind- it's easy to make your own using an Arduino controller and 3D printable parts, with all design files and plans readily available online via GitHub and Thingiverse.

10 Viral Photos That Are Total Fakes

It feels like a day doesn’t go by without someone posting a fake pic on the interwebs, and that pic inevitably goes viral as everyone buys into the BS because they’re so willing to believe anything that is posted online must be true.

Have you seen the one with the package of Marlboro brand marijuana cigarettes? Sorry stoners, that’s a fake.

How about the pic showing three Asian women being punished for witchcraft in 1922, their heads locked together in a cangue? Totally not the story behind this pic, and a total fraud.

Fill your head full of truth with this handy guide to 10 viral photos that are actually fakes from the good folks at Gizmodo's Paleofuture, then take to social media and give those naïve believers a piece of your mind!

Adorable Pics Of Pets Before And After They've Grown Up

(Image Via Reddit)

The time we get to share with our beloved pets seems fleeting in comparison to our own life spans, and losing a little furry friend you’ve had since you were a kid makes the whole thing that much harder. That’s why it’s important to celebrate the time you have with your fur covered family members by taking lots of pictures of, and sometimes with, them!

This series of photos collected by "The Only Magazine For Pandas" Bored Panda shows pets (and sometimes their owners) before and after they're all grown up. Some of the pets stayed relatively the same size, most became huge when compared to their younger selves, and all seem to share an unconditional love with their adoptive human parents.

The Most Ridiculous Mashup Ever - SpongeMen SquareWatch

(Video Link)

It takes a sponge wearing square pants to solve the greatest murder mystery to ever rock the annals of Bikini Bottom superhero history, a special kind of square pants wearing sponge with a cool face mask thingie and really cool detective style clothing.

Born to raise the WTF factor to infinity times infinity, SpongeMen SquareWatch is the animated mashup nobody asked for, nobody thought they wanted, but now leaves us waiting breathlessly for a full length sequel.

Created by Rodrigo Huerta and Hans Van Harken for El-Cid, SpongeMen SquareWatch is a hilarious way to scar the already troubled minds of SpongeBob fans, and an adorably clever way to pay homage to Alan Moore's masterpiece Watchmen.

Disney Princesses As Game Of Thrones Characters

It’s safe to say that Walt Disney would absolutely not approve of this Disney Princesses as Game of Thrones characters crossover, unless it made him a couple million bucks of course, but as of now old Walt has yet to come back as a zombie, and nobody has discovered his talking head in a jar, so I guess illustrator Sam Tsui, aka DjeDjeHuti on DeviantArt, can safely share his character redesigns with the world.

Elsa from Frozen conveniently fits right in, but if Sam had come up with these designs years ago he would have been sorely lacking a fitting princess for the role of Daenerys, however casting Mulan as Brienne is absolutely perfect.

It’s a good thing this crossover will never happen in real life, because I don’t think Disney fans would enjoy seeing these lovable princesses being butchered like Westeros hogs at a Red Wedding!

Marc Almond Sings Along With Floppy Drive Version Of Tainted Love

(Video Link)

People are playing all kinds of songs with linked up disc drives these days, from The Ghostbuster’s Theme to REO Speedwagon’s Keep On Loving You, but YouTuber Gigawipf is officially the first computer hardware musician to get the original singer to add their voice to a techno-comp creation.

Singer Marc Almond heard the floppy drive version of Soft Cell's Tainted Love created by Gigawipf and liked it so much that he decided to add some vocals to the original video, bringing New Wave icon and outdated computer tech together in a totally 21st century way.

Young People Swap Clothes With Their Elders

People are always making fun of senior citizens for the way they dress, referring to their look as outdated and slouchy, but is that perception entirely based on the age of the person wearing the clothes?

Photographer Qozop decided to test that theory in a series called "Spring-Autumn" in which hip youngsters swap clothes with their elders, either a parent or grandparent.

Some of the style swaps are pretty subtle, especially when the young person is already dressed conservatively, but the pics of the mother(?) and daughter standing in front of a bunch of saris is one hilarious example of a radical style update!

New Batman Figures From DC Collectibles

Fans of Batman: The Animated Series were pleasantly surprised by the sheer volume of figures that came out for the series back in the 90s. Kenner did a surprisingly good job of not only capturing the iconic look of the series, but also in making toys which were fun to play with, complete with lots of accessories and even a few vehicles and playsets.

So why create a whole new series of action figures based on Batman:TAS? Because the dream of the 90s is alive in Toyland and this new series, released by DC Collectibles, is sure to make collectors feel like a kid again.

DC Collectibles is not only releasing some sharp looking figures from B:TAS, they’re making figures from The New Batman Adventures and more, and it’s a sure bet that Batfans will be lining up to get their hands on these new figures when they’re released in November.
