John, you are so right about that website. It's terribly annoying and near impossible to use. I tried but I quit after 5 minutes. 5 precious minutes I can't get back.
Why do Mary Janes and peanut butter kisses/taffy always go gummy and melty within days of purchase? You sure don't want them rolling around in your purse.
I grew up with my mother using Macintosh apples for her pies. I still use them but they are hard to find sometimes. I like my apple pies to be soft not crunchy. And I like the balance of sweet and tart in the Macs. I will be making one for Thanksgiving. It's better than pumpkin pie, IMO. I like them both but apple pie just brings back so many memories of family get togethers. The best one was when my parents got into a mashed potato fight. good times...
Yes, I've noticed that, too. Also, red M&M's used to taste different. I could tell them with my eyes closed. Then they changed the dyes. Can't have any fun anymore.
When I was 5 I found a metal concrete mixing tray/bowl that my dad had left unattended in our backyard. It had collected a large body of water that had turned swampy and I found hundreds of tadpoles/pollywogs. froglets - call em what you will swimming around. I put a few dozen into a large mayo jar and put it on my bedside table to watch them. Close to bedtime I was looking at my jar of frogs when an altercation occurred within. It had become a feeding frenzy. That was when I learned that tadpoles will eat each other when there's nothing else to eat.
When I was a nanny for 2 little girls I cared for there was a day when they came running to me to tell me a bird was in their garage and couldn't find it's way out. The garage had long thin rectangular windows and this poor hummingbird was frantically banging into one window. I figured it must have been there a good while and probably was very tired of flying. I approached the bird and held up my arms like a tree branch might look and extended my index finger and stood very still. The bird latched onto my finger. I lowered my arms and curled my hand around my other hand which had the bird. It was very still, just watching me. I told the girls to slowly come to me and the 3 of us got to look at this beautiful bird up close. I then carried it outside and took my cupped hand away. The tiny bird looked at me, then looked around and flitted away. I must say those girls were mighty impressed with my bird catching skills that day.
