Yes, with the wind chill, it's close to minus 40 degrees here in Montreal. (that's the same Celsius and Fahrenheit.) I have the heat on in this bedroom and I'm wearing a hoodie, and it's still cold.
I sometimes get calluses on my thumbs from playing my clarinets. I get a callus on a slightly different part of my thumb when I play my bass clarinet a lot.
I've heard that porcupines can actually put their quills "down" (or maybe they only put them "up" when threatened.) So it is actually possible to pet a porcupine and not get quills stuck in you. Though there is always the danger of having it happen by accident.
