Paintings in Wine

Elisabetta Rogai isn't the first painter to use wine, but she may be the first to make it work. The challenge is that the color of wine changes over time, sometimes in unplanned and unpleasant ways. But Rogai found that adding flour to the wine helped and has been using the mixture ever since. View more of her paintings at the link.

Cinder Block + Rebar + Wood Plank = Toaster

Adi Zaffran's design is simple but elegant. It's probably dangerous, too. But if you want to create a functional toaster using as few parts as possible, this would be the way to do it.

Are you just looking for love and it seems to be hiding from you? This Viper probe droid knows how you feel. Chris Gerringer created eight prints illustrating the frustrations of mechanical love for the droids from Star Wars.

Hilarious Response to Cease and Desist Letter

The Freetail Brewing Co. of San Antonio, Texas discovered that the name of one of its beers was claimed by another company. It learned this fact when it received a threatening letter from the attorney of that company. The brewers decided that fighting the issue wasn't worth the trouble, but wanted to have a bit of fun with their response. Pictured above is a screenshot of part of the letter, which can be found at the link. Much to Metzger's credit, even though he didn't go to law school, he knew about the advantage of sending a copy to the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

"This commercial isn't real, neither are society's standards of beauty." Wait, that's not a real picture? Apparently not. Filmmaker Jesse Rosten critiques the beauty publishing industry in this video. Hard.

Beneath Your Feet

For this striking work, Korean artist Do-Ho Suh placed thousands of tiny human figures below a sheet of glass. They support the weight of visitors who walk through the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. This exhibit will be on display through February 11.

LEGO Superman Actually Scrolls across the TV Sreen

How did Rod Gillies accomplish this feat? He used LEGO bulldozer treads to operate the scrolling skyline. They alternate between one and two-brick widths to give the assembly flexibility.

TARDIS Purse

We've previously seen a TARDIS purse made of duct tape, but this one is a professionally-made, durable polyester fake leather purse. Officially, its dimensions are 28 x 16 x 16 cm, but....

It's made by Etsy seller Mochi Hernandez. At $250 a piece, they're pricey, so you may prefer a TARDIS cookie jar instead.

The latest issue of Icon magazine looks at the future of food production, including the application of modern design principles to food and the use of home 3D printing for culinary purposes. Imagine a World Where Comic Sans Is the Only Typeface

They are comic sans supporters. They are legion. They do not forgive. They do not use Helvetica. Word by word, icon by icon, they're changing typography. Goudy preserve us.

Amigurumi Cockroaches

These little guys by Dessy TAB are so cute that they'll always be welcome in my kitchen. I know: some people don't like cockroaches. But that's only because they're jealous of roaches' ability to survive a nuclear war.

Engraved Tools

Hand woodworking tools are classy by themselves, but engraving artist Catharine Kennedy takes them a step further. The delicately carved surfaces of her planes are simply gorgeous. Obviously, they will cut better afterward.
