Fire crews in Cumbria were surprised to receive a call to rescue the cow, which had toppled 10 meters down a slope of the river Leith before a tree broke its fall. [...]
The animal was sedated by a vet before being winched out of the tree by firemen using specialist equipment.
"(Fire crews) had to wear body armor in case a stray hoof lashed out at them," said a spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
The cow emerged from the tree unharmed.

Researchers at the Tokyo Institute of Technology have developed a realistic simulation of cooking with a frying pan:
When you move the frying pan, the actual movement is input, and you can feel the ingredients through the pan. Also, the upper part of the system is a screen. When you look into the pan, you can see what's in it through a half-mirror. So this simulator lets you experience looking into the frying pan while you hold it.
This technology combines a rigid-body physics engine library and a heat conduction simulator. The heat conduction state changes in line with the amount of physical contact, and the simulation is achieved by combining them.
The food that you cook with the simulator is also very low in fat.
Volcanic forces created a rock formation 279 feet above the rest of Aiguihle, France. In the Tenth Century, local Christians built a church there -- the Chapel of Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe.
