John Farrier's Comments

I've heard of these parties. There's a company in my area that offers them. I suppose that if a mother is getting an ultrasound scan for recreational rather than diagnostic purposes, it's not a bad idea. But a party would be the wrong place to learn about a gestational problem.

Even though he was not trained at it, Grant was a good prose writer. This may have been an important talent of his; I have read that one of Grant's greatest strengths as a general was his ability to write clear, precise, easily-understood orders. He knew how to construct a sentence. Grant had a rich vocabulary that occasionally sent me to the dictionary, though not too often.

His memoirs are an in-depth, chronological look at two wars from his perspective. They're engaging rather than dry and tedious.
