A "college degree" is an imprecise concept. Some degrees are worth the cost of time and money, but others aren't. I would advise high school graduates to try to get realistic estimates of how much money they will earn after graduation as a result of their degree. Never mind intangibles--that's a sucker's game. Focus on money because the landlord doesn't take any other kind of payment.
Under no circumstances should you go into debt for college unless you're looking at an Ivy League or top technical university (e.g. MIT). Pay as you go.
And remember that colleges are businesses and higher education is an industry. They're trying to sell you something. Above all else, they want your money. They have their best interests at heart, not yours. Believe your own research, not their advertising.
I think that Robert Conroy wrote an alternate history novel to that effect. I don't think that it's plausible. Even in the event that Germany is able to conquer the UK (very fanciful: Operation Sea Lion was wishful thinking), there's no reason to think that an independent Canada would permit German troops to simply sail in. And certainly Canada had the military capacity to resist such an invasion--not that the US would have permitted Germany to attempt it.
I did link to the artist's site. Clicking on "This Wolverine head" takes you there.
