I was curious about the rationale for the dissenting opinion of the Supreme Court and am skimming it. It's interesting. If I follow the main argument correctly, the problem is not that Wong Kim Ark was a Chinese citizen, but that he was the subject of a foreign sovereign--in this case, the Emperor of China. There was apparently a similar case in which a court ruled that a German-American was not actually American because he was born a subject of the King of Saxony even though he was born within the United States.
I really like the approach that Scott takes in this video. I might be able to use it in my information literacy classes as a demonstration of epistemic humility.
I think one could argue that Hell or High Water is a modern western in that it takes place in the West, involves a lot of travel through rural areas, and involves confrontations between good and evil, as well as law and order.
