I've noticed similarly dismissive treatment of rape in Silverberg. You don't have to go far back in time to find a society in which rape is treated as a mild inconvenience (e.g. Heinlein's Friday). Thank you for the defense, Andrew.
It's possible that she intended for her code to be accessible to only people who could see her in person rather than the entire internet. I don't think that I'll risk possibly violating her privacy.
