Sergei Kalinin of Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Alexei Gruverman of North Carolina State University have created a new electromechanical imaging technique. They used tiny blasts of sound to probe the surface and subsurface of delicate biological materials (for example, wing of a butterfly). This new "nanoscope" can also visualize things at the level of a single molecule. Link |
