What we have here is one of the earliest iterations of the drafter’s compass. Due to its ability to produce only circles of one size, its use was quickly discontinued.

This is a classic medieval chain mailer.

…As rolling scrolls in thick durable parchment for delivery by pigeon and bottle can be highly fatiguing, many past wordsmiths found the leverage this tool provided to be a godsend, increasing their output by more than sevenfolds of a single sheet of paper. For the forming of those impossibly long mail chains, the stabilizing spike proved to be invaluable in fighting fatigue.

This would be an early dwarven miner's dousing handle.

Usage requires the firm grasp of both handles for stability as residual magnetic currents from their own hammers would otherwise swing the handles wild, putting weaker wrists at risk. Despite this, the accuracy in both directing the intrepid miners towards an ore deposit, and once there, centering the location of the most fruitful dig were invaluable during the rise of the Dwarven empire.

Two other good ones that come to mind from recent years are Sword Art Online and Stein's Gate. Both carry the near future scientific advancement idea but take you into completely different directions.

Sword Art takes you into a fantasy land of being trapped matrix style as an adventurer in a video game where only completion of the game will grant release.

Stein's Gate pits a brilliant and somewhat crazy group trying to fix what seem to be a breakdown of the flow of time against a faceless entity that would seek to take their world changing creation at any cost.

Naturally twists abound in both, so I struggle to say much more than: You should watch these!
