It's shallow at best, pretentious at worst. The artists, directors and filmmakers who worked in black and white, knew what they had. The medium was black, white and grey-scale. They used that to specific effect. Director John Houston was against it for that reason and his daughter, actress Angelica Huston, successfully helped implement legislation in France to prevent colorization of movies against the wishes of their creators.

Would you assume that a charcoal rendering by Picasso should be colored because he couldn't get his hands on some paint? If you had books with black and white engraved by plates by Gustav Dore or Hans Holbein, would you automatically assume they need to colored-in?

Sure, I'm obscenely rich, I can fix that stuff for them.

I lived in Belgium for 3 years and when I got there, I was horrified at the idea of eating mayo on french fries. However, as it was usually offered that way, to be gracious, you do as the locals. Now, It's a standard condiment for me and I've gone so far as to corrupt my daughter too.

Bear in mind that Fritesaus is NOT Miracle Whip. It's more savory. The closest thing to it is homemade real mayo.

This isn't about the mean-spirited teasing of fat kids. It's about the fact that their lives are in danger. The detractors worried about stigmatization are the same ones who support "social promotion" in schools and sports where everybody wins; the thinking that has given us a generation of millennials who are, as Morley Safer called them, narcissistic praise-hounds.

The preservation of self-esteem, even if it's built on fabrication is more important than real accomplishment and goals that are difficult to attain. The flip side of achievement is failure and if you are taught that you can't fail, you won't learn. Weight-loss is not easy. I struggle with it. Obesity in kids is a fact and its resolution requires facing facts as well.
