On average, all sectors included, brick and mortar stores need around 30% margin to live, as internet based retail needs 15%. As a B&M store owner, there's NOTHING I can do about that. I can work my marketing magics to please customers, but when it comes to pricing... I'm a dead store walking. And I didn't talk about disintermediation when the manufacturer scraps its retail chain and goes online directly. Cheaper for the consumer... but he lost his job!
Nobody's going to save the book industry : internet cost killing approach is burning the libraries, among other things. Be glad we still love hard covers and paperbacks and that there is no 'kindle' revolution erasing books like the CDs are being erased...
Another internet induced death... Encarta, newspapers and the linked industry, music stores, book stores, travel agencies, telephone books, Best Buy and pretty much all the non food retail sector. We're loosing jobs! :(
Urban legend? I didn't dare to try.

Hé, hé, bonne blague :)
