Well, due to the fact that it's safety glass it won't cut skin (i've held a handful of those 'shards'...it's like squeezing Lego bricks). I think his ego's in more pain ;)
Well, he was in it for literally (and I'm not using that term as a Valley girl) 5 seconds. The filmmakers still used him in the promo material though, to use his infamy.
Well, I'm no foreman, but for one it's mandatory when working. Secondly, He could bang his head on the ledge of the hatch going back in (strong gust of wind, slipping). You never know what could happen, that's the thing with accidents.
Point is, it's better to have one just to be safer, I guess.
