its not clear if he really carry nkife or not,how ever from the view point of buddhism one who have already sacrifice his life for coundless beings he hav right to atack one being in order to save coundless beings ,this is smart way of deep compasion .but its is sure he dont hav anger at that moment,and holly person know if he let that person atack hem that person wil sufer more sufering in his next life.... ,,,, in the sutra by budha,there is almost same story about one of previes budha life.so dont fell narrow mindid becoz budhist knowledge is truely so deep and frofound .
