The 1919 White Sox were not one of the greatest baseball teams of all time. Yes, they were heavy favorites in the World Series, but that was primarily due to the fact that the American League had been winning the WS with regularity (9 of the last 10 years), and no one saw any reason for that to stop.
As for Joe Jackson - 1) He took money. Admitted it in court, and he did not give it back. 2) While he hit .375 for the Series, the hits were either at inconsequential times, or when everyone was trying to win. He was a cheat, and does not deserve to be in the HOF.
