Actually in my case, preexisting genetics already gives me certain aspects of that borderline superhumanism/really impressive humanism. People with my disorder, Asperger's Syndrome/autism spectrum disorders, are less than 1 percent of the population. Amongst the abilities which can come from this are daredevil-like heightened senses (which require training to control/not overload), hyperfocus allowing us to pick up on details others overlook (great for CSI work) exceptional mathematical and linguistic capabilities (more amongst aspies and high functioning autistics, but in this culture, those capabilities are necessary more than ever). Incredible memory, and even savantism. Each of these in their own way is a superpower which can be used to benefit society. Physical powers aren't always the answer, sometimes, especially in a society as technologically dependent as ours, mental powers can come in quite handy.
