By sterilizing herself, isn't she depriving the world of a person that could potentially be an "environmental savior"? If she put half her effort into teaching her child about the environment and fostering a respect for the planet in him as she has put into thinking up inane ways to minimize her footprint, she might actually make a difference through him. Instead, she gained 15 minutes of fame and (possibly) a future of regret.
