From what I have been reading. They do not really eat electronics. The problem here are the shear numbers. They roam looking for food, in all places. They are attracted from the humming sound of electronics such as the sound computers makes when the cooling fans run. They pack themselves together, and cause the computers to malfunction, and short.

I can't help you on the boom box thing. But, I feel your pain. I love music, and I would be going bonkers if I had to replace them so quickly.
