This is actually the third time a boomerang has been thrown in space. A boomerang was thrown in microgravity in an atmosphere aboard Spacelab (1992 by German astronaut Ulf Meerbold), aboard Mir (1997 by the French Astronaut Jean-François Clervoy) and now the International Space Station (2008 by Japanese astronaut Takao Doi).
