The cat in question ". . . had been cruising around the neighbourhood in the early hours of the morning, "beating up" other cats and spraying for almost a year."

Clearly, this was not a cat who was being groomed for stud. A cat can be injured, pick up diseases, or killed in an accident when wandering in this way. Anyone who has a vested interest in a cat would keep it confined for its own health, at the very least.

When I was being taught how to drive, I was told that a driver who accidentally hits and kills a dog is obliged to inquire about its owner in the vicinity, but there is no such obligation for a cat. This is because a cat will wander.

I love Mafia nicknames! My wife and I once decided that our church needed to use them, and so we attached new names to our church pastor and the board of directors: Pastor "Big Dale", "Numbers" Jackson (Treasurer), Jack "The Finger", and "Knuckles" Walker (Head Usher), etc.

It almost goes without saying that this didn't go over well.

Being a dad, I might have a few:

- Never avoid work. Hard work is the best friend you'll ever have. "Learning should be fun" is a crock. Anything worth knowing is worth working for. You know that clever guy in the teen TV show? The one who passes work off to others, and always has an excuse? He's on the fast track to prison or the grave.
- That thing you want to do? It should be more important to you than it is to me. You need to be doing to stuff to get it done. I'll only be helping.
- You can expect to live to be a hundred years old or more. There's time to do a lot of the things you dream of, if you take care of the foundations while you're young. You're young until you are 40.
- We're lost. We're lost in San Francisco. It's not bad, since being lost in San Francisco is better than knowing where you are practically anywhere else.

One lesser-known fact about the Flintstones name is that King Features comic syndicate had a hand in the change from the Flagstones. After the Korean War ended, Beetle Bailey took a short vacation to visit his sister, Lois. She was married and living in the suburbs. Her name? Lois Flagston of 'Hi and Lois'.

When 'The Flagstones' was in pre-production planning, King Features got wind of the name and asked Hanna-Barbera to choose a name that wasn't so close to theirs, since they had launched the Flagston family as a spin-off comic strip.

Ha! Two bits of trivia in one! Lois Flagston is Beetle Bailey's sister!
