This is a jamadhar used in 14-19 century in India. It is often mistaken to be a Katar. According to a book i have a Katar is actually a dagger that is very common in India and what happened was when Akbar the Great(1542-1605) completed the Ain-e-Akbari(a encyclopedia of some sort) the picture was draw incorrectly, which lead to the invention of the Jamadhar! The Jamadhar also lead to the invention of the patta, which is similar to the jamadhar but longer and more sword-like such as a gautlet added to it.
