In my opinion, Dead Presidents and Higher Learning were largely ignored or panned because compared to their directors' first films (Menace II Society for the Hughes Brothers, and Boyz N the Hood for John Singleton), they were pretty terrible. They wander all over the place and lack the coherence that made the 2 debuts so damn powerful.

And don't forget Singleton had already taken a hit with Poetic Justice.

Oh, the irony. Today every kid is supposedly "special," to the point where a kid who actually IS special isn't allowed to utilize his gifts.

Guess we don't dare risk damaging little Johnny / Sally's false belief that they can do anything they want (except apparently hit a 40 m.p.h. fastball).

For a twist on the analemma, here is a brilliant "Tutulemma" created by Tunc Tezel during 2006. There was a total solar eclipse in March of '06, and the piece includes an image of the totality. Per the artist, "Tutulemma" is "a combination of analemma and tutulma (pronounced to-tool-ma), the Turkish word for eclipse."
