I was in a large singles group on Prodigy. We used to hold weekend parties in hotels where two hundred or more would show up, and one time Prodigy sent down its own representatives with a bunch of freebies. But then they started charging by the hour... We painstakingly moved the whole group to BBS, FidoNet. It was difficult for the less technical members and we lost a lot, but fortunately it wasn't long before we had Internet and IRC. The Prodigy screen above brought back some, er, interesting memories.

Since they're colliding protons, any black hole they create will be the size of two collapsed protons, whatever that is. It's going to be very, very, very small indeed for the infinitesimal mass of two, or even a few, protons to be concentrated enough. Things of proton-size don't often collide, since the space between atoms is typically about a thousand proton diameters, so the chances of anything bumping into a black hole 6 to 12 orders of magnitude smaller is, um, not a lot. It may eventually eat Earth, but it will grow so slowly at first that it could take ten million years before anyone notices what's going on.

My daughter could read at 18 months. Her mother was a librarian and she was constantly surrounded by books before she could walk. By the time she started school she could recite lengthy passages from Lord of the Rings from memory.

Chain smokers? One pack a day? Any chain smoker worth the name could get through a pack in an hour. Heh heh, militant non-smokers seem to think if they smell smoke twice a day that's chain smoking.
