The excellent kill ratio of the F-86 over the MiG-15 wasn't because of a speed advantage (the MiG was actually slightly faster). It was due to the better training of the US pilots. Chuck Yeager proved this by "shooting down" a fellow US pilot flying a captured enemy plane in mock combat. After they landed the two pilots swapped planes and Yeager shot his opponent down again.

Since it's in Illinois and winter I assume there were no golfers in he area (something the pilot could easily see from the air). So you have a ski plane landing on a long empty fairway with no danger to the public or property. I think people are upset not because it's dangereous, but because it's different.
