Very neat! I had a similar idea this past December for my wife's birthday. She loves French Impressionism and her favorite artist is Claude Monet. I recreated his painting "Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge" on a cake using colored sugar water as my "paint". Here's the time lapse video of the cake being decorated, and also my wife's reaction:

How neat! My wife and I were just at Natural Bridge a week ago. I took a Photosynth photo from almost the same spot as the photo above.
We saw the carved surveyor's markings, but didn't realized George Washington's involvement until we got back to the gift shop and I read about it on the back of a postcard. Thanks for posting this. It's a very interesting and beautiful place.
