This Fence Is Delicious: Om Nom Nom

You may not be able to intentionally create a design like this in your home for Halloween, but it still looks pretty impressive when it happens on its own.

I have to wonder though, is the tree trying to escape or does he just think the fence is that tasty?

Man Duct Tapes Paralyzed Woman to His Back, Takes Her Surfing

Photo: Calum Robertson

Pascale Honore enjoyed watching her sons surf the waves near her home in Elliston, Australia. But she was paralyzed in a car accident 18 years ago, so she thought that she'd never be able to join them.

Tyron Swan, a professional diver and friend, however, thought that it could be done. At the link, you can read about how he trained for this complex feat and how Swan and Honore made their plan work.

Teen Built DIY Submarine out of Drainage Pipe

Give me a ping, Beckerman. One ping only, please.

Many high school students are planning to lounge around the lake this summer, but not Mendham High School, New Jersey, student Justin Beckerman. The 18-year old teen will be doing the final testing of his one-man DIY submarine, made from drainage pipe:

Co-existing with Jet Skis and fishing boats in the picturesque West Jersey lake is Justin’s latest invention — complete with lights, paddles, ballasts, air compressors, 2,000 feet of wire and a Plexiglas dome top that looks like the head of Star Wars robot R2-D2.

Justin, who turned 18 last weekend, spent a month designing and five months building his 9-foot-long submarine, into which he can fit.

A Different Russian Dash Cam Compilation

(YouTube link)

Russians commonly use dash cams to record what happens on the road to defend themselves in case of accident fraud. That's why we have so much footage of the meteor that exploded over Chelyabinsk. The custom also records some wonderful instances of kindness. This compilation shows drivers and passersby helping drivers stuck in the snow, animals in the street, and many little old ladies terrified by traffic. -via Laughing Squid

Little Girls Are Better at Designing Superheroes Than You

In Alex Law's latest project, she takes pictures of little girls in superhero costumes and makes comic book character designs from them, which is a turnabout of the way adults do it: cosplayers recreating comic books as accurately as possible. The kids have no problem with improving upon accuracy by adding what they have available and what they just plain like. After all, there's no real reason the Hulk can't wear a tutu! Wedding Present: Mother Gives Her Son a Lamp with Everything She Found in His Pockets While Doing His Laundry

The mother of redditor justgrant2009 chose a brilliantly original wedding present. As he grew up, she collected everything that he left in his pockets. At his wedding rehearsal dinner, she presented them to him sealed inside a lamp:

Growing up, whenever I left something in my pockets and put them in the dirty laundry, before she would wash things, she checked my pockets, and if she found anything, she put it in a glass jar on the top shelf in the laundry room. I remember as a kid, wishing soooo hard that I could get some of the items back, but it was forbidden to even go near the jar. By the time I was old enough to be sneaky about it and get into it, I had just learned to accept that that was how it worked and I wouldn't get those things back.

Years went by and I had completely forgotten about it, until this last May. I got married, and at our rehearsal dinner, when my mom and dad stood up to give their thank you speech, my mom pulled a large gift bag out from under the table. She started by giving a short speech explaining that over the years she had collected stuff from my pockets, and it was in that moment that I thought, "I'm gonna get the jar!" I started tearing up before she had finished talking. When she did, I opened the bag and found that not only was I getting the jar, I was getting it back in the form of a lamp (and yes, she has sealed the top of the lamp to it so that I still CANNOT open it).

Shelved

Brilliant, genius film here that will help you get your smile on today. Promise! It was created by Auckland's Media Design School. The comedy is a nod towards the early films of directors Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) and Richard Linklater (Slacker, Dazed and Confused). Directed by James Cunningham with visual effects by eleven Media Design School students.

Found in a Bag of Mulch

Nadtacular cut open a bag of mulch and found this. Alive. He decided to raise it as a pet. The animal survived, and you can see the rest of the pictures in an album following the critter's first five weeks. In case you don't know what kind of animal it is …I don't want to spoil the surprise. Link  -via reddit

Marten Runs Wild on Soccer Field

(YouTube link)

A marten got onto the field at the soccer game between between Thun and Zurich in a Swiss Super League match Sunday. A net couldn't catch it, but Zurich's Loris Benito did -and got bitten for his efforts. The marten was removed from the field, but came back again! This time, a goalkeeper grabbed the animal. Yeah, he was bitten, too, but not hurt since he was wearing gloves. After the second stunt, the marten was actually taken away from the game. Link -via Fark

Swiss Army Keys

Redditor colonelcrunch ingeniously replaced blades in his penknife with his car keys. It could lead to fun pranks, such as fooling first-time passengers into thinking that he's trying to steal his own car.
