Listen to Wikipedia

The music generated at the site Listen to Wikipedia may sound random at first, but what you're hearing is real data.

Using the data provided by Wikipedia's recent changes feed, bells are used to convey additions, while string noises represent subtractions from articles. Higher pitched noises are for smaller edits, while larger edits are translated into lower pitched tones. Deep swells of sound accompany new users joining the service. All of the various noises work together in surprising harmony, creating a zen-like mood to go along with the furious edits being made to Wikipedia's database.

At the same time, you can see what's happening onscreen. It may be soothing music, but you might also be sucked into the thrill of watching the encyclopedia of the internet being built in real time.

Quadcopter Wedding Shoot

(YouTube link)

WeddingMan123 did a wedding photo shoot (two days before the actual wedding) and used a quadcopter to get some video footage. Well, you know how it is when you are trying to do too many things at once… and we have a little mishap. The groom sustained a cut on his head and cheek. Luckily, the couple were good-natured about it and continued the shoot. The photographer says,

At the request of the bride and groom I put the video online. All though it sucks that this happened. I have decided to own up to what I did, instead of try to hide it from the world.

I'd kind of like to see the pictures taken afterward. -via Daily Picks and Flicks

Breaking Bad, Jr.

(YouTube link)

This kids version of Breaking Bad was conceived by middle school student Ian Hollowood, produced by Patrick Willems & Mike F. This time, a kid plagued by a diagnosis of diabetes produces illicit bubble gum. "I am the one who rings the doorbell and runs away." Ha! Note the clever use of the bubblegum and the bicycle bell.  -Thanks, Joel Macready!

Fat Cat Squeeeeeeezes Through a Tiny Doggie Door

Pardon the vertical video, we heard that format is supposed to be slimming ... but it didn't work for Linda Joiner's 26-lb (11.8 kg) cat who won't stay outside. Now if that's not a real life Garfield, I don't know what is!

To Catch (An Amazon) Thief

After his Amazon shipment was brazenly stolen from his front porch, Tim Lake of Arcadia, Arizona, was determined to catch the thief. He has footage from surveillance camera and decided to craft a tongue-in-cheek poster to find the "un-American" criminal.

The poster describes the suspect as a "jerk" of "about yay" height with "vacant, uncaring, and lacking a soul" eyes. Nationality: "Un-American" and occupation: "Burglar."

Tim describes his ordeal to CBS5:

Fear of Flying

(YouTube link)

Anthony is a pilot. His friend Josh admitted he was somewhat afraid of flying. Anthony convinced Josh that an aerobatics flight would help him conquer his fears. This video contains plenty of NSFW language, which you can barely hear over the engine noise, but you'll get the idea. -via reddit

Swallows Nest in Land Rover

A family of swallows are nesting inside a Land Rover used for nature tours in Pensthorpe Nature Reserve in Norfolk, England. Five eggs hatched, and the babies continue to thrive while the vehicle is in use. Warden Darren Williams says two chicks have fledged but still follow the Land Rover around.

"I feel like a surrogate father and I'm sure all the hot air from my tour patter was keeping them warm.

"The nest is just on top of a speaker and we've rigged up a swallow hammock from a little bit of netting in case they fell out as we bounced over the rough terrain."

The nest was initially removed from the vehicle to discourage the birds nesting so close to the public, but the adult swallows began to build again as soon as it was removed.

Mr Williams said: "This is uncharted territory for us.

Blender Powered by a 380 HP Car Engine

(Photo: Quindell Williams)

That daiquiri isn't going to mix itself, you know. If you want your ice thorough crushed, then you need this blender. Russel Keene of Oswego, New York made it with a 380-horsepower engine from an old muscle car.

Woman Stages Wedding So That Her Dying Father Can Dance with Her

Rachel Wolf wanted to dance with her father at her wedding. But she wasn't engaged and her father was dying of pancreatic cancer. So she staged a wedding in order to have that precious moment:

She sent her father an invitation requesting his presence at a father daughter dance. But her father told ABC News he had no idea what exactly was going to happen. His daughter simply told him to make sure he brought nice pants and a shirt.

With the help of donations from stores, she put on a white wedding dress, met her father at a park and had the traditional dance –  to “Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman — this past Saturday.

ABC Affiliate KXTV recorded the event, but she is not planning to watch the video until her actual wedding.
“It was a fairytale come true for Rachel,” said her mother Jeanine Wolf.

“It just grew into this magnificent event,” the mom said, adding, “She just really loves her dad and he loves her and she just wanted this moment.”

Man Cut In Half Prank

Comedian, illusionist, and ventriloquist Andy Gross went around scaring people in his man-cut-in-half illusion suit. You have to admit, it is a bit startling the first time you see it. -via Viral Viral Videos

10 Rules of Internet

Anil Dash wrote a list of ten internet rules, which all make pretty good sense. Here's one that is pretty well known to bloggers. Or should be.

If your website's full of assholes, it's your fault.

That's the rationale behind Neatorama's comment system. We have few rules, but if a commenter breaks them, they are edited/warned/deleted/banned depending on the behavior. That's to make it nice for everyone else, because we LOVE it when people comment to add information, make jokes, tell personal stories, or just give feedback on a post.

People will move mountains to earn a gold star by their name on the Internet.

Well, we don't have gold stars, but we do have ♥s for comments (which anyone can hand out) and the "comment of the week" (which doesn't happen every week, sorry). Besides, if you are a registered Neatoramanaut who has not been edited, chastised, moderated, or banned, you are part of an elite group of wonderful people, so pat yourself on the back. Here's a rule that made me smile:

Given enough time, any object which can generate musical notes will be used to play the Super Mario Brothers theme on YouTube.

Ha! Don't we know that! Read the rest of the rules, with related links, at Dash's website. Link -via Metafilter

Picnic Launch

Behold this work of genius. What a way to spend a day on the lake! Redditors had some suggestions for a reality TV show based on these two guys: Dock Dynasty, Pond Stars, RelAX Men, and American Picnickers. Link

Wolverine: The Musical

(Video Link)

The Glove and Boots puppet show is always good, but they've topped themselves with this grand production. See Logan's tale in song, using musical themes from Beauty and the Beast (I think) and Phantom of the Opera, among others.

Because Mr. Rogers Should Always Have A Sweater

Make recently put up a touching tribute to the creativity of Mr. Rogers, but while the article was great, it was the picture of a yarn bombed statue of the celebrity that really caught my eye. The sweater was given to the statue by artist Alicia Kachmar back in 2011 and it might just be the most fitting tribute of them all.
